    > With uninterrupted, stunning views and direct access to wonderful walks, Gwar Nant Cottage, renovated by the owners, is a very stylish holiday home lying in an enviable position within Rhandirmwyn, the small Carmarthenshire village with a big reputation. The garden and terrace of the cottage is a great place to relax and watch the varied visiting birds, and for cosy nights, the lounge with wood burning stove is the perfect place to be. This is a beautiful retreat to really get away from it all. The village, which is located in the Upper Tywi Valley boasts an award winning real ale pub with a reputation for great food, so good the Duchess of Cornwall has popped in for a drink as HRH Prince Charles has a country residence nearby.

The local area is steeped in history and tales, one such being the legend of highwayman Twm Siôn Cati, who hid out in caves near the village. The county of Carmarthenshire, known as ’The Garden of Wales’ has become a big draw for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of the outdoors and is the largest county in southern Wales, stretching from Carmarthen Bay in the south to the western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the north. Other places of interest nearby include National Trust Dolaucothi Goldmines (tours available) and the lakes of Llyn Brianne and Llyn-y-Fan Fach, the lake that gave rise to the Arthurian legend of the Lady of the Lake.

It must be firstly emphasised that Gwar Nant is a spacious, well-equipped property with comfortable accommodation. Inside is great, in summary. However, the outer areas need maintenance. The rear patio area is neglected and poses a danger to toddlers ( especially ) owing to damaged/eroded "barbeque" fixtures and unsecured "coal hole". That rear area is highly unsightly, yet the landscape views South are magnificent, sometimes enhanced by a visiting buzzard. The garden furniture and exterior paint need attention, as the initial appearance upon approach down from the entrance, past the established weeds is not that of a luxury cottage, or indeed as misleadingly depicted on the website ( as of 14th August 2019, and at our time of booking ). The only "welcome pack" for us was a box containing an assortment of teabags. Not what the website implies and, in our previous experience with other cottages, a welcome pack typically comprises a pint of milk/box of chocs et al. Owing to the fact that the nearest ( excellent ) food shop is in Llandovery, and one has travelled, likely as not, a formidable distance, a pint of milk, and a bara brith would have been welcome, for example. In conclusion, please do not be put off using the property owing to the state of the rear. We will be contacting the owner; the cleaner is aware. The locality of the Towy Valley is beautiful, friendly and excellent for walking and wildlife. Also be aware that the Royal Oak has changed hands and it too has a misleading website. The shop there is closed.

We were looking for a cottage to spend a long weekend at during half-term, that would sleep 6 comfortably as well as accommodate a dog. Gwar Nant Cottage seemed to cater for all our needs. When we arrived we were not disappointed at all. The cottage is very spacious indeed and decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard. I would like to give particular mention to the quality of the beds, as all of them are are incredibly comfortable, which I have found to be quite a rare thing in other places I have stayed. The owners have included a lot of extra little touches which give it a very homely feel. The views from the garden are breathtaking and you can get lost in the peace and quiet of the surroundings. This a fantastic cottage to stay in and I would highly recommend it.

We had a fabulous short stay in the spacious and comfortable cottage. The bedrooms were large with quality soft furnishings. The living room was cosy and helped us to relax. On a sunny but chilly day the dining room windows offer terrific views out over the valley.

Lovely cosy cottage with everything you need for a break away. Loved the decor throughout and the little touches such as wellies for walkies! Gorgeous food and great service in the local pub too.

Beautiful cottage with absolutely stunning views. Very well equipped, the walk in wardrobe and en suite in main bedroom is an added bonus. The owner was so helpful and there ready to help with any questions we had. Thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks away and feel very rested.

A perfect little get away. The cosy feeling with the log burner on, when we strolled back from a drink at the pub just minutes away was amazing. 2 nights for us wasn’t enough.
