Hafod, a contemporary dormer bungalow, is nestled right on the former railway line, which now forms part of the amazing Ystwyth bike trails. Head east for miles of leafy lanes and panoramic scenery, or west to where the river joins the sea at Tan Y Bwlch and on to Aberystwyth town less than a mile and a half away. It really is where mountains and rivers reach to the sea. The sociable open plan living space with underfloor heating features a sleek and glossy kitchen and a living area with a cosy wood burner for gathering around. Children or teenagers will appreciate the separate snug with a sofa bed and TV. Another major attraction will be the lovely outdoor hot tub, towels not included, perfect for relaxing in after a busy day sightseeing in the area.

The seaside town of Aberystwyth is less than 3 miles away, where you will find an array of shops, restaurants and cafés, as well as the small harbour, pier and promenade. To the north end of the seafront, you will find the Victorian Cliff Railway taking passengers on the stately journey to the summit of Constitution Hill where you can see the Camera Obscura, or sit and have a coffee whilst taking in the magnificent views of Cardigan Bay. There is a cliff-top walk to Clarach and Borth from Aberystwyth which passes the Camera Obscura, and is part of the famous Wales Coastal Path. Being a university town, there’s a very good arts centre and theatre, and the National Library of Wales offers free guided tours. The steam railway departs from the town and goes through stunning countryside to Devil’s Bridge and waterfalls and is well worth a visit. If it’s beaches you’re after, the area has a stunning selection. At the northern end of the superb beach, Borth Beach is the impressive sand dune system of the Ynyslas National Nature Reserve and visitor centre, which juts out halfway across the mouth of the Dovey Estuary. Visit Ynys-Hir, the RSPB wildlife haven and the Dyfi Osprey Project.

The fascinating Borth Submerged Forest is most of the time hidden by sand and the sea, but occasionally rough seas scour the sand away, and you see the forest at low tide along the beach, where stumps of oak, pine, birch, willow and hazel (preserved by the acid anaerobic conditions in the peat) can be seen. Radiocarbon dating suggests these trees died about 1500 BC.

Families will enjoy a day out at the Silver Mountain Experience lead mines, just 15 minutes east of Aberystwyth. Walkers and cyclists will appreciate the myriad of opportunities; you can join the cycle path at the end of the road that goes to nearby Tanybwlch Beach in one direction, or all the way to the old drovers town of Tregaron, some 15 miles away. At the property, a nearby footpath will lead you to a children’s play area in the village and the local pub serving food is within easy walking distance. Beach 2 miles. Shop 530 yards, pub 2½ miles.
Hafod (UK6178) can be booked together with Corlan (UK6179) and Elgandy (UK6180) to accommodate up to 21 guests.

Brilliant holiday in a beautiful cottage. It’s our second visit to Hafod and I would highly recommend it. The cottage is beautiful with all the comforts of home and a few little extra luxuries like the hot tub and log burner. It’s very handy for the main town of Aberystwyth with a good array of shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Gorgeous beaches are all along the coast so you’re never far from the sea.

Fabulous cottage, lovely location. Main bed a bit soft and would take my own pillows next time but otherwise can't fault it.

We had such a great time here! John had made sure the heating and lights were left on for our arrival. The cottage was clean and tidy and just what we were looking for. The kitchen was lovely and modern with all the basic amenities that we needed over the weekend. The bedrooms were both comfy and spacious. The bathroom and toilets were also clean and we loved the bath tub and shower! The hot tub was a lovely touch and felt private which was great. The cottage is in a small village which is nice and peaceful but is equally not too far from main Aberystwyth so easy to get whatever you may need. I would definitely reccomend the cottage!

Very much enjoyed our stay at the Hafod, was a nice relaxing time in a warming place very well equipped with everything you need, the hot tub was a nice luxury although ideally it could be situated under shelter for this time if year to improve the experience, overall though a good stay local to aberystwyth and easily accessible, would definetely revisit in the future.

This lovely, clean, warm and well equipped cottage was fantastic for a half term break with the kids. I literally couldn't fault this place, so homely yet so well equipped and the location was great for exploring the gorgeous countryside and beaches. Hot tub was a great bonus and the children loved their cosy bedroom/snug. Excellent value for money as well.

Very pleasant cottage in quiet location. I personally found the ultra-modern electronic equipment such as hob and oven rather difficult to get used to, but probably I'm a bit of a dinosaur with these things! Host and caretaker both very friendly and helpful.

Spent a week relaxing at this lovely location. Quiet, peaceful area that was just right for us. House was perfect in every way. Clean and modern with a small but practical and secure garden area that was great for our dog. Hot tub was a lovely bonus! Would definitely revisit!

Lovely spotlessly clean house with lots of room. Hot tub is nice but could do with screening from the roadside. No real facilities in the village but Aberystwth is less than 3 miles away and can be reached on foot in less than an hour using the Ystwth trail. We hit a bad patch of weather but the cottage was cosy and warm to come back to at the end of the day.
