    > ‘‘...imbued with noble history...set in a dramatic and varied landscape...’’

Take a beautiful Peak District National Park setting, just 3½ miles from Bakewell, add a historic hall (first recorded in the Domesday Book), and an ancient cluster of listed buildings converted to form superb holiday cottage accommodation....and the result is the captivating blend that is Harthill Hall. Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. Noble names have woven the threads of the hall’s long history including Henry de Ferrers, the Cokaynes and the Harthills. Henry VIII is also believed to have stayed at the hall.

It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain. The chapel ceased its functions as a place of worship in 1546 and now takes the form of The Chapel and Hartle Cottage. The eight cottages are furnished with antiques and surround a medieval cobbled courtyard. They all retain a wealth of original features including thick stone walls, large oak beams, mullion windows and flagstone floors. Derbyshire’s bustling market towns, villages, hills, dales and rivers offer majestic scenery, and a rich variety of customs. Boasting a varied and beautiful landscape, they offer a blend of heritage, history and family attractions. The beautiful market town of Bakewell (3½ miles) is situated on the River Wye, crossed by a 13th-century five-arched bridge which has coffee shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are Matlock, Hall Leys Park, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Buxton. National Trust properties and gardens nearby include Riley Graves, Longshaw, Mam Tor, South Peak, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall. Close by are both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Games room with free wireless internet connection (1gb per day per device). Golf and horse riding are available within 5 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

The barn is nice, but overpriced - a lot of the decor is quite tired and some of the bedrooms are small. There were things like broken tiles and toilet flushers. However the main living spaces were very nice and the equipment was all good.

Well fitted out barn conversion, upstairs lounge has spectacular views over the valley through a large picture window. Open plan kitchen/dining area/lounge works well. Some of the bedrooms are a bit small, all have a small ensuite with shower, but lack shelf space. The only shelf is over the small basin and gets in your way using the basin. Overall the place was great, loved the tub, views and location.

We had a great time staying at The Barn. Best bits: Kitchen well designed for the number of people - plenty of fridge and oven space and two dishwashers! Good sized living/ dining area that worked well for our groups and games room for the kids to hang out in. Easy to see kids playing outside from the living area. Pool and hot tubs popular with the kids. Lovely grounds and views. Downsides: The rooms are a good size but the bathrooms aren’t great. They are very small and a bit tired looking - impossible to get towels dry. The stairs are very steep - they were just about ok for the 3 year olds in our party, but it would be tricky with younger children. This is probably the best large cottage I’ve stayed in. I’d definitely recommend it.

We were there for my mom's 70th and I can safely say that everyone had an absolutely amazing time. The place was a fantastic find for 14 people (8 adults and 6 children) and the swimming pool was a big hit with the kids.

A great location for a family get together. Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. Good location for access to Bakewell and Buxton. A lovely welcome of a bottle if Cava, hot cross buns and doggy chews. Great grounds ideal for an adult and kid game of hide and seek!! The only improvement would have been a local ordanance survey map for guests to borrow during their stay - a walk out was a bit of an adventure without one and google maps not detailed enough. Thank you for helping us make family memories.

A well equipped barn with all mod cons. The welcome pack was very welcome and the additional bits for the dog lovely. The hot tub was a delightful added extra and the views over the surrounding countryside were amazing. Good amount of parking too.

Lovely time at the Barn for my mums 60th, really appreciated the special touches of a few decorations and a birthday cake already there for when we arrived. The Barn itself is lovely, warm and has everything you need however.. I feel there could be a few improvements which would make this the most amazing place to stay. Firstly there is literally no soundproofing, so any movement or noise can be heard in the bedrooms etc - we heard someone cough in the room below us and it sounded like they were in our room!! Secondly the kitchen is very small for the amount of people you can fit in the barn and the kitchen table is bolted to the floor so you cant re-arrange to make more space - not really anythign they can do about that as such but just an FYI for other parties. Thirdly the hot tub is really very small (4 people max) for the amount of people you can take to the barn - theres enough room to fit a bigger one or even another smaller one in the garden area. Lastly, the bathrooms etc could do with a bit of an upgrade in my opinion as they were looking a bit dated but overall we loved the place.

Whilst outside is very attractive, inside is somewhat tired and doesn’t live up to the outside, would suggest some tlc is required on the interiors.

Brilliant views from windows and surrounding area is beautiful, great for walkers. The barn was comfortable and warm. Some of the bedrooms and en suites were very small but adequate for our needs. Well equipped kitchen but dish washer and cooker didn’t work very well. Loved the hot tub and the swimming pool was good. Would have liked a pub within walking distance. The Bulls Head in Youlgreave is very good for food though. It was a very enjoyable weekend for our family get together.
