    > ‘‘...imbued with noble history...set in a dramatic and varied landscape...’’

Take a beautiful Peak District National Park setting, just 3½ miles from Bakewell, add a historic hall (first recorded in the Domesday Book), and an ancient cluster of listed buildings converted to form superb holiday cottage accommodation....and the result is the captivating blend that is Harthill Hall. Nestling in 14 acres of grounds on an upland called Priest’s Hill with excellent walking available from the doorstep, the properties have the use of an extensive range of leisure facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, solarium and treatment rooms. Noble names have woven the threads of the hall’s long history including Henry de Ferrers, the Cokaynes and the Harthills. Henry VIII is also believed to have stayed at the hall.

It was here in 1259 that Sir Richard de Hartle was issued a Papal Bull by Pope Alexander II, allowing him to appoint his own chaplain. The chapel ceased its functions as a place of worship in 1546 and now takes the form of The Chapel and Hartle Cottage. The eight cottages are furnished with antiques and surround a medieval cobbled courtyard. They all retain a wealth of original features including thick stone walls, large oak beams, mullion windows and flagstone floors. Derbyshire’s bustling market towns, villages, hills, dales and rivers offer majestic scenery, and a rich variety of customs. Boasting a varied and beautiful landscape, they offer a blend of heritage, history and family attractions. The beautiful market town of Bakewell (3½ miles) is situated on the River Wye, crossed by a 13th-century five-arched bridge which has coffee shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are Matlock, Hall Leys Park, Chesterfield, Alfreton and Buxton. National Trust properties and gardens nearby include Riley Graves, Longshaw, Mam Tor, South Peak, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall and Kedleston Hall. Close by are both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Games room with free wireless internet connection (1gb per day per device). Golf and horse riding are available within 5 miles. Shop 3½ miles, pub 1 mile.

Lovely cottage, in lovely area. Has a pool and sauna, and massage available. One bedroom has not plug sockets which is a pain( might put an alarm clock in). And there is no entrance through the cottage to outside patio which is a shame, as you have to walk past the other cottage users in their hot tubs. But would stay again.

Fantastic place to stay, set in the beautiful countryside and only a few miles from Bakewell. Cottage was just beautiful, well equipped, very clean, great facilities on site. If you have any problems the staff are so helpful and deal with it instantly. I can not recommend this place enough. Would definitely go back. Thank you so much.

An old barn that has been beautifully restored with so many of its original features creating a wonderful holiday atmosphere. Lots of special little touches provided at the accommodation. Wonderful views; from one side into the old cobbled courtyard and the other side out over the country landscape. I have already booked to go again next year.

Although we enjoyed our stay at Hartle i have to say that the sofas in our property were very uncomfortable and did give us back ache (low and lumpy) My other concern was that because we had our dog with us and the property didnt have its own small garden we werent able just to let him out for a wee and had to keep putting him on the lead and going out to where dogs were allowed off the lead. The property itself was lovely but comfort is a big thing, as when you go away from home for a break you want it to be comfortable and enjoyable. On the positive side my boys loved the pool and the cottage was warm.

An amazing weekend away close to great scenery and towns. Facilities including the sauna and pool were amazing! Only down side was the matttess wasn’t that comfy. The hostess even left us a bottle of prosecco and some Bakewell tarts! Would look at revisiting (even with the poor nights sleep)

Very disappointed - our room was the only one that didn’t have access to the outside seating area. This was not made clear at all in the pictures or description of the place. And we had kids - so wanted to put them to bed then sit out and enjoy the amazing views, but couldn’t do this. We chose the stay because we saw the outside seating area. The play area is not the same as the photos - there is less now, than in the photos. The door leaked! And the radio wouldn’t work. The place is amazing, clean and comfortable, spectacular views and the kids LOVED the swimming pool, but we feel very let down, actually cheated, by the lack of access to the outside seating!

Needs refurbishment. Needs a proper front door lock. Kitchen needs decent equipment. New soft furnishings in lounge. Feels unloved.
