Hawthorn Cottage is a cosy terraced cottage with easy access to the centre of Kendal. It is set over three floors and is perfect for a couple, three adults or a small family. The cottage was built about 1835 and retains some of the key features of its age including beams and an open coal fire, making it a comfortable stay all year round. It is fully equipped including a dishwasher and washing machine, fridge/freezer, internet and TV, full central heating and shower with separate water heater. At the rear (though also the easiest entrance through the archway) it opens onto a small cobbled yard shared by other houses from the same period.
In the immediate vicinity Kendal Green, Serpentine Woods and Maudes Meadow provide great areas for dog walking or strolling. There are other longer walks that can start from the cottage and take you into the countryside around Kendal. About 100 yards away is a bus stop for the 555/755 bus service which goes through to Windermere and on through the central Lakes - Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick - allowing access to some of the key walking areas en route. Visitors have referred to using this rather than taking their car. The short walk into town gives access to shops, pubs and a wide range of eating places. The local Brewery Arts Centre offers a range of options including cinema, exhibitions and a range of musical events while Abbott Hall combines an art gallery with visiting exhibitions and Lake District Museum.
Comments from guests staying at Hawthorn Cottage enthuse that it is cosy, comfortable, homely, and welcoming, and in an excellent location for Kendal and Windermere. It provides the perfect bolt hole and a perfectly placed cottage for dog walking. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 600 yards.
