With the added benefit of off road parking you can take advantage of all the town’s amenities without having to worry about town centre traffic and parking. Downstairs is a cosy living room well-equipped dining kitchen and cloakroom with toilet. Upstairs are three comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom and to the rear is an enclosed garden ideal for alfresco dining in the summer months.\n\nThe charming market town of Clitheroe offers a great selection of individual boutiques and specialist shops including the famous Cowman’s Sausage Shop which sells over 75 varieties and the award-winning Byrnes Wine Shop which has an underground cellar full of vintage wines. There are also several supermarkets for all the self-catering essentials although many visitors will prefer to eat out as there are so many lovely restaurants coffee shops pubs cafés and a brewery to choose from. Clitheroe is also home to a 12th-century Norman castle which towers over the town. Thought to be the smallest Norman castle in England it is now home to a museum and gardens which include a children’s playground and skate park. There are events held in the grounds throughout the year and there are also several circular walks from the castle which will take you around the town and surrounding countryside.\n\nSurrounded by stunning unspoilt countryside Clitheroe is the perfect base from which to explore the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Lovers of literature will enjoy a visit to nearby Stonyhurst College where both JRR Tolkien and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle spent time. You can also walk the ’Tolkien Trail’. Other places worth visiting within easy driving distance include Lancaster Morecambe Bay and Blackpool which are all within an hours drive or accessible from Clitheroe train station which is within walking distance. You can drive to the Yorkshire Dales National Park in around 40 minutes and even the Lake District is only just over an hour away making Henthorn Place an ideal touring base.     We were met at the property by the owner who let us in and explained everything to us about the property in regards to how to work certain things. The owner was attentive and helpful. There was a gift for our two year old son as we stayed at Christmas which was a thoughtful touch. The property was modern and sparkling clean. We very much enjoyed our stay at Henthorn except from two points, one which couldn’t be helped and one which could. The bath wasn’t running hot water and so it wasn’t possible to bath our son but thankfully we could give him a shower as this appeared to be working fine. The owner reacted to this problem and an engineer was called out the day we left. This was just one of those problems that occurs within a property so we didn’t mind too much. Upon leaving the premises, less than an hour later we were contacted by the owner saying that she couldn’t find the hair dryer and three point adaptor that were on her check list and that we’d be invoiced for these items. My partner and I were unhappy at this as we were made to feel like we’d stolen when we had taken anything. The owner later messaged saying she had then completed a check list herself and had found the items. Surely it would have been better to complete a thorough check of the property before sending a message saying that we’d be invoiced for the missing items? It was a dark cloud over an otherwise fabulous stay.
