Herbie’s is charming, bijou stone cottage set in private countryside. This detached, single-storey cottage has been completely refurbished throughout. The main living area is open plan with studio-style accommodation, featuring high ceilings with large Velux windows that drink in the light and look to the surrounding tree tops. There is a kingsize bed, comfortable seating for two and a warm, welcoming wood burner which acts as a lovely focal point. Whilst the cottage has been completely modernised, it retains its olde worlde charm, with solid wooden floors and thick stone walls. The kitchen is small but very well-equipped, and has modern built-in units and integral appliances. A shower room with a state-of-the-art sun pipe in the roof reflects the sunlight into this pretty shower room.
Herbie’s is a perfectly formed little gem and ideal as a couple’s secluded getaway. Set in the grounds of the owner’s lovely old stone farmhouse, there are 17 acres to wander around. There are wonderful walks through the wood and down to the sea shore, which is only 5 minutes away. This is a haven for birdwatchers, especially in the spring and autumn, as the property is right on the route for many interesting migrants. Deer, seals, otters and pine marten are all close neighbours. The cottage has its own private woodland garden area, ideal for picnics or enjoying a quiet drink whilst planning the next day’s excursion.
Whilst quiet and private, there are good facilities within easy reach. The village of Ardgay, just 2 miles away, has a local convenience store and small café. The next village of Bonar Bridge, a mile further on, offers more facilities including shops, a café, pub and bistro restaurant. It also has a 9-hole golf course. There are numerous outdoor activities and places of interest in the area. The fishing is renowned, with salmon and trout fishing permits available to visitors in season. There are a series of mountain bike trails close by. Golfers are particularly well catered for, with a number of championship golf courses within a short drive, including Royal Dornoch and Brora. Herbie’s is just off the renowned North Coast 500 Route, which runs through some of the most spectacular scenery to be found anywhere in the British Isles. Local places of interest include the Falls of Shin, one of the few places to see salmon leaping close by, and Dunrobin Castle, historic seat of the Duke of Sutherland. Inverness is 45 minutes’ drive away. Beach 15 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.
Herbie’s can be booked together with Rowan Cottage (ref UK5939) to accommodate up to 6 guests.
