Attached to the owners’ home, High Hurst is part of an original 18th-century farmhouse which has smaller outbuildings, including an original Victorian outhouse. It is surrounded by 20 acres of prime grazing land encompassing a quarter of a mile stretch of the River Duddon, this spate river is crossed by a series of ancient stepping stones along its length. During the lambing season and winter months, Herdwick sheep occupy the associated farmland prior to release onto the upper fells, leaving the owners small flock of Ryeland sheep as permanent residents of the farm, keeping the hens company. Secluded, peaceful and with breathtaking views, High Hurst offers the perfect location for the Lake District visitor looking for inspiration and relaxation.

Excellent cottage although the ducks do come into the garden quite often which is lovely except when you have a dog who likes to chase them so had to be kept on the lead. Robyn is very friendly and welcoming. The only down side is there’s no phone signal but that didn’t spoil our enjoyment.

High Hurst is a very cosy cottage attached to the main farm house but with a delightful private garden which the dogs enjoyed as much as we did! Robin made every effort to explain all of the amenities of the cottage and she is a warm and friendly hostess which enhanced the holiday experience as we felt very welcome from the moment that we arrived. A guided walk around the farm with Robin meeting all of the animals was truly special and anyone who loves animals and farming would enjoy this. The cottage is immaculately clean and tidy and there are lovely views of the garden. The surrounding hills are spectacular in their solitude and remoteness - a dive or a walk across the hills is also recommended. Coniston is only 30 minutes drive away with a good selection of shops, pubs, the lake and beautiful walks.

Value for money is phenomenal, lovely enclosed garden for dog and walks from the door. Marked down on amenities as you really are very rural, best to get a week shop like we did. You are looking at 30 mins to places like Windermere, though we tended to stay away from the tourist spots during half term. Amazing meat and eggs from the working farm & Robin was attentive and always on hand to help us finding locations to explore. Clean rooms, light and airy, comfy bed. Log burner was a welcome treat in the cold, wet weather we endured.

We had a very relaxing week at High Hurst and enjoyed our third return visit very much. Beautiful unspoilt part of the Lakes where you can get away from it all. Many thanks once again - and hope to see you again next year!

Robin was an excellent host, she welcomed us as soon as we arrived and informed us about local walks and where there were places to eat and shop. In a remote location but was what we wanted, there was plenty to see and was really relaxing. The cottage was dog friendly and had everything we needed and more. The highlight was being able to see all the animals on site. Thank you for a nice experience Robin and Andrew :)

A wonderfully comfortable and cosy cottage. The log fire after a day walking the hills was very welcome. The kitchen was well equiped - as was the whole cottage. The enclosed garden was excellent for our dog. A very enjoyable week.

A great modern property on a working farm in a quiet valley. Great walking opportunities and a very nice pub 2 miles away. Very dog friendly with its own enclosed garden. Friendly property owners are immediately available for any problems but are not intrusive.

The cottage was perfect in every way. My husband and I were looking for somewhere we could get away from it all and that is exactly what we found at High Hurst. The cottage was very comfortable and Robin was very friendly and helpful. There are also lots of fabulous and varied walks in the area. The West lakes are beautiful and we can't wait to go back. Hopefully we will be able to stay at High Hurst again.

This is our second visit to High Hurst and it doesn’t disappoint. We love the location and the cottage is always clean and well equipped. Our dog settles really well, and enjoys the garden. We love the surroundings and thoroughly enjoy and welcome the opportunity to get closer to the animals on the farm.

High Hurst is a well equipped cottage with everything you need and more plus there are rare breed animals and fabulous wildlife in abundance on site, we even had our own roosting swallows staying with us in the porch area and the enclosed garden was perfect for our pooches. Located in the Duddon Valley area of the Western Lakes close to Eskdale, it's a stunning location but is some distance to main shops and amenities which we wanted, so really suited us. Robin the owner was so helpful and knowledgeable and she works really hard managing the farm and property to a high standard. We did several of her suggested days out. There is a large ordnance survey map posted in the utility which was really useful plus plenty of guide books and maps available. If you want a peaceful retreat in unspoilt spectacular countryside, far from the madding crowds High Hurst is perfect.
