Holmefield Cottage is a beautiful, semi-detached holiday cottage set in the picturesque Peak District National Park, mid-way between Bakewell and Matlock, with its sister cottage Holmefield Coach House (UK4039). These properties are only a 5-minute drive from Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, with uninterrupted views over the Derwent Valley and the historic Peak Rail steam trains.
The popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, have been attracting visitors to the area since the spa was developed in the late 17th century. Set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent, they both offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a host of attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Mining Museum. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family, with show caves, a nature trail, water gardens and the Owl Maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst a short drive away is the National Tramway Museum at Crich. To the north is Chatsworth House and Park, along with the market town of Bakewell. These properties are ideally placed for exploring this beautiful region, both the rugged Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak are within easy reach from Bakewell, whilst the theme park, Alton Towers, is only a short drive away. These wonderful Derbyshire homes have the added benefit of a delightful patio area overlooking wonderful views – an ideal place to spend time over breakfast as you plan your days ahead, or a glass of wine after a long day spent exploring. Shop, pub and restaurant 580 yards.
Holmefield Cottage can be booked together with Holmefield Coach House (UK4039) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The weather was poor, but we managed to get to the Christmas market at Matlock and Chatsworth House despite the drizzle and fog! Sadly we were all ill with chest/ cold infections immediately we got home - all 4 of us. The only downside, we felt there should have been more firewood provided for the winter period and it’s a lot colder in the Peak District. As we came last year and knew the cottage, we brought our own logs and coal from Somerset this time - but it would have helped if there was a log store at the cottage - this is our only criticism. Thank you.

Lovely cottage and views just a bit awkward turning right out of property because of traffic.

This was a lovely cottage to stay at . The location was great and views from the kitchen window were lovely. Unfortunately the lamps in the bedrooms didn’t work too well and we needed a replacement lamp. A few of the ceiling lights didn’t work in the property. We contacted the owner but didn’t get a reply by phone, but we did get it resolved. There were many wires hanging from various areas in the kitchen, not sure how safe it all is. Water was hot for showers in the morning. There was a washing machine but no dryer apart from a stactic one. Although there was a dishwasher no tablets were left . And replacement rubbish bags were not available.

The view from the rear of the cottage was excellent and the owners went out of their way to help, but the cottage was listed as ideal for walking holidays and it was on a main road with high traffic volume, no footpath and on a blind bend. Crossing the road was very dangerous, especially at night. The cottage was also listed as being pet friendly, but on arrival there were a host of restrictions not made available prior to booking. The electrical wiring in the kitchen boarders on leathal with appliance cables being routed into the walls and halogen light fixtures fitted under the MDF cabinets (both dangerous practices, not compliant with electrical code). All that said, the area around Darley Dale was very pleasant and we will be coming back.
