Cosy cottage with lovely secluded garden. Wood burner in front room was ideal in the evening when it was too wet to sit outside. Had a lovely stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, we knew the village already and love the local pub for meals, very convenient and excellent food. Very pretty cottage, clean & comfortable - however, there were a couple of things that we need to note here. One is that the ceilings do have very low beams, which is not mentioned in any write up. Now we know that is a charming and lovely thing to have..... unless you are over 6' tall, as is my poor husband who spent the week either bending or banging his head! The other thing was the sloping bedroom floor, which again, in itself is a really fun thing to have, but it meant that the bed sloped badly and it did make sleeping a little uncomfortable. This could be easily remedied by a prop one side and would make a lot of difference. But really we don't want to be negative about the cottage, it is really lovely and these 2 things didn't take too many points off a great week away.

We had a great time. The cottage was really quaint & cosy and it had almost everything we needed. Everything was lovely and clean. It was in a perfect position - near to the M6 to make travelling to it very easy yet so close to lots of fabulous things to do in the Lakes. Just a couple of things that may be of use to you (not criticisms as the place was great):- -My husband is 6'2" and he hit his head several times when he forgot to duck! I'm not sure whether I missed something in the details but it might be worth mentioning the low ceilings, beams and doorways as he did have to stoop a lot. -We could have done with a few more places to hang wet towels. Overall though, it was a really great place to stay. Thank you.

Very comfortable old beamed cottage with 2 stunning bedrooms. Centally located in village within 5 minutes walk of pub or onto the fells. Good location for exploring Northern Lakes. Would definitely return.

We enjoyed our stay at Jacky Garth. It was cosy and reasonably well equipped. As someone else had said it did smell doggy when we arrived, we had our dog with us and we don’t have this problem at home because we do not have carpets! My husband felt he was falling out of bed due to sloping floor, but we remedied this by tucking a rolled up blanket under the mattress. ( not much to be done about the old floor!) it would be good if the bed was bigger and more level but it was comfy. The knives in kitchen were not very sharp which made self catering difficult. But this is being picky as it didn’t spoil our holiday. We enjoyed local walks and didn’t travel far in the car as it was conveniently placed. We went to a folk evening at the village hall which was excellent, and on one of our wet days the coffee shop made for a good distraction. As others have said the Horse and Farrier pub does excellant meals. A slow cooker would be a good addition to the kitchen.

As stated by other reviewers this is a wonderful, cosy cottage with period features, and is ideally situated in the village. There are several walks from the front door, and easy access to A66 makes it quick and simple to reach Keswick and other popular walks and scenery. The nearest pub/restaurant is just minutes away on foot and is strongly recommended.
