The Cottage was as described, with good basic amenities, though no hot water was available when we arrived: this was fixed later in the evening when we phoned for help. Small details were definitely on the mean side: dishwasher but no tablets to use in it; no kitchen roll; no hand towel in the kitchen; the promised wi-fi did not seem to be available. However, the heating via electric radiators was excellent, and the clothes airer a great help - esp. with Lake District weather! Shower also was very good, and easy to use: no freezing or scalding! Bathroom in general very good. The look of the cottage was good, but it appeared to have been done some time ago, then rather left to its own devices - cleaning was sketchy: all windows had cobwebs, kitchen tiles/plugs had stains, which were easily removable. Kitchen table sticky. We opted to use the front bedroom, with twin beds, which was a mistake: beds incredibly uncomfortable, and one of them seemed to be actually broken. The main problem was local amenities: parking, said to be on-street outside the cottage, was not really an option as the road was so narrow, so we parked a way up the street, off the main road. We looked forward to the two local pubs which did food, described in the brochure in the cottage, but found on arrival that one was for sale, so the food on offer was limited to fish & chips or burgers, pending the expected sale, and the other one, boasting a beer garden and restaurant, had been closed for three months. This meant driving every night for food and drink, as we did not wish to cook, wanting to make the most of our 4 day break, and there were not many restaurants/pubs nearby. The nearest shop was miles away, and quite hard to find, or perhaps there was one nearer, which we missed. On the other hand, the cottage was central to the area we wished to visit (which is why we chose it) and driving through many small villages around there it seemed it was easier to buy a land-rover than a box of dishwasher tablets. A comment on 21st century life rather than on Jasmin Cottage, perhaps. (but all the more reason to provide basics such as kitchen rolls & dishwasher tablets for those who might expect to find them there!)
