Jenkin Hill is situated in the village of Thornthwaite set in delightful grounds overlooking the Derwent marshes between Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater with views of the osprey nest and 360 degree views to the surrounding fells. The cottage has a lovely spacious sitting room including window seat on the first floor which takes advantage of the splendid views. The bathroom is fully tiled and the kitchen is a country cottage style. The cottage side garden includes an ideal spot for osprey nest viewing. Thornthwaite has at its centre the Thornthwaite Gallery and St Mary’s church It nestles opposite Skiddaw and beneath Whinlatter and is a comfortable fell walk or short drive away from the Whinlatter visitor centre. The centre offers a car park shop and restaurant with toilet and baby facilities and provide easy access to fell walking mountain biking forest trails ’Go Ape’ and children’s adventure playgrounds. Unfortunately it didn't meet our expectations, especially as all the reviews we read, rated the property mostly 10 out of 10. Some of the issues are as follows; The bed linen wasn't very clean in the top bedroom, we found several hairs on the sheets and the bed sheets smelt unclean, we had to change them with the downstairs bed linen which were much fresher. The shower was unusable really low pressure and dangerously went from cold to exceedingly very hot. The kitchen cutlery was stored in a wooden unclean box which was full of crumbs and the cutlery was unusually small in size and several baking trays we found dirty. There was alot of road noise from the nearby busy A66. which we heard at night as we like to have the bedroom window slightly open. This was very disappointing as the property is advertised as being in a very quite location. But on the positive side we appreciated the kind gesture of the milk and biscuits, the property has great views from all the windows and the lodge has nice traditional furniture and is in a good location near to Keswick and all the stunning scenery.

What a fantastic place to enjoy the Lake District! The views from every window are spectacular and the cottage is so spacious and comfortable, you cant help but feel yourself relax as soon as you step through the door! Conveniently situated a few minutes drive from Keswick, so many of the fells and lakes are just on the doorstep. Watching the Osprey from the corner of the garden was also a treat. I would thoroughly recommend staying here and I would love to return in the future.

It was good to have the owners next door as any fault got sorted quickly.
