• About Jill Strawbale House

Explore the Highlands from this unique, elevated, cruck-frame strawbale house with southerly views over Loch Sunart and a hot tub on the large deck.

This unique, eco-friendly strawbale house has incredible views from its elevated position and is as spectacular as many featured on TV’s ‘Grand Designs’. Boasting a Green Tourism Gold Award, and facing due south with commanding views over Loch Sunart and the Morvern hills beyond, this detached property offers a huge upstairs with an arched roof and open plan kitchen, ?dining and living areas. It has floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors at the southern end which lead out onto the balcony where there is a small table and chairs for you to enjoy your morning coffee. A spiral staircase leads to the large lower deck with the hot tub, dining and sitting areas with a chiminea. Enjoy walks through the historic Ariundle oak woods, a temperate rainforest, and discover the old lead mines which are close by.
The rest of the peninsula has much to offer, including a number of ’Corbett’ mountains, the stunning Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse at the most westerly tip of the British Isles and the Ardmamurchan Distillery. There are pristine, sandy beaches along the coast, including Sanna Bay with its impressive white sand dunes and views across to Muck, Eigg and Rum. There is an abundance of wildlife, seabirds, seals, otters, deer, pine martens, as well as dolphin/whale watching and the Natural History Visitor Centre. It is possible to rent mountain bikes in the village and go for local kayak trips. You can also enjoy day trips to Glencoe and Ben Nevis (with skiing possible at each), and fans of Harry Potter can take the ’Jacobite Express’ steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, see the Glenfinnan Viaduct and so much more. This peaceful and tranquil place offers a truly ‘get away from it all’ experience and the views will amaze you - so come and relax. We have stayed in the Highlands many times before but never in a property as perfect as Jill. The property is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Location is perfect if you like stunning scenery and peace and quiet. The views from the property are fantastic and we even had a visit from a Pine Marten most evenings.

Spent a lovely week here chilling out, enjoying everything this area has to offer. Great base to get around the area, lots to do and see. Local amenities were also good. Thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and all that it offers. Every day was a new adventure for us, not knowing what we would end up seeing and experiencing. Every day we woke up to different views as the weather changed, and great for stargazing for the hot tub.

Absolutely fantastic! The view from Jill is just stunning whatever the weather. A superb place to relax. The hot tub and outdoor areas are great, we lit the fire on the patio and listened to the birds one evening and enjoyed the peace. We had several visits from a couple of Pine Martens, watched an Otter in Loch Sunart and spotted several Red Deer and Seals in the area. There are several places to eat near by and lots of places to explore. The walk up to the Lead mines through the nature reserve just down the road is wonderful. We have stayed in Jill for two years running now and would love to go back again, it nourishes the soul ????????

This is simply a fantastic place to stay, well equipped, simply and stylishly furnished with stunning views over Loch Sunart, to be enjoyed from sitting room, bedroom and hottub. It is very private without being remote, close enough to Strontian so you can get any necessary supplies and within easy reach of some quite breathtaking scenery. The website photos do not give you a sense of the space in the upstairs living area, which is much bigger than pictured, and really do not do it justice. We have stayed in lots of self catering properties on the West Coast of Scotland and this is up there with the best of them.

Jill was the perfect getaway that we were looking for. A piece of heaven in the Highlands. Robert and Justine had provided lots of information on local walks, and things to do and was always on hand if you needed any help. The house is simply stunning and the views were second to none. We had a great mix of walking and exploring the lochs and beaches along with some well earned relaxation in the hot tub and watching movies from the vast library provided by Robert and Justine. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Had a fabulous stay in 'Jill'. The accommodation is beautiful, well equipped with everything you need for a break away. Hot tub was lovely, from which you could enjoy the stunning views of the loch and surrounding mountains. We visited when there was heavy snow, but that only enhanced the views. The host was really helpful - providing recommendations, clearing paths of snow and offering lifts should we need it into the local village. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would love to return. Can't recommend highly enough.

An amazing property in a stunning location. We used the cottage as a base for scuba diving Loch Sunart and walking in the area. The hot tub is a definite luxury and bonus. The visiting pine marten was a joy

First of all, the host were more than helpful and on call whenever we needed them. On arrival they made us up a hamper of local foods which was just lovely. The house was as stunning as the pictures and amazingly clean. There was plenty of wild life around and a little beach on the loch that I went too daily. Watching the stars whilst lay in the hot tub had to be the highlight of my trip. Living in Manchester , it’s not something I’ve ever seen so clearly. Thank you so much for being so hospitable and we will most certainly be back
