    > Nestling in the tiny hamlet of Littlebeck, this beautiful holiday cottage is set within its own gardens. Wonderful little villages hiding away deep in the valleys of the North York Moors Park await discovery, with walkways and cycle tracks leading to many inns, tearooms and restaurants, where traditional Yorkshire cuisine is served by friendly locals. A step back in time can be taken by visiting quaint unspoilt smugglers’ coves such as Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Runswick - as well as the port of Whitby, with its colourful harbour (from where Captain James Cook set sail), old cobbled streets filled with antique and curio shops, and a 3-mile sandy beach. The ancient city of York is also just an hour’s drive. Shop 3 miles.

A lovely cottage in a remote hamlet with excellent views and a lovely garden. Would benefit from some investment: needs new garden furniture and most curtain tracks replacing. The settees and chairs although comfortable are showing signs of wear. New saucepans and frying pans are also needed. A shower door was broken when we arrived so we did not use that shower. Definitely need transport to access any amenities and a 4x4 vehicle in winter. The general standard of cleanliness was good, aspects of the kitchen would benefit from a deep clean e.g. extractor fan and hood was greasy. TV complex to use for the non IT literate. There are instructions for the TV but we found them complex to follow. There were no light bulbs at all in one of the bedrooms; the caretaker replaced these on the 4th day, meaning we needed to replace some in the interim. If these issues were resolved and judging from others’ comments in the Visitors Book, we are not alone in reporting these issues, it would enhance the holiday experience.

The cottage is beautiful, its grounds, location space are 10/10. Its situated in a rural location so has no shop or pub in walking distance. We planned for this so it wasn't an issue. The location also affects the TV. Again this wasn't really a negative to us. I would visit again.

Nice house in a beautiful, peaceful location. Local shops within 2 miles and Whitby is about 5 miles away. However the standard of cleanliness was very poor, for example the oven had not been cleaned and was dirty and greasy. The oven trays were rusty, covered in grease and had left over debris of burnt garlic breads and burnt chips. The oven hood/extractor was also coated in grease and the filters were filthy and in urgent need of being replaced. We chose not to use the oven during our stay. This made us very wary of every other piece of kitchen equipment and we washed everything thoroughly before use. (we have photos if owner wishes to see them) After 30 years of hiring holiday cottages throughout Britain, this is the first time we've had to give the kitchen a good clean before feeling confident enough to use it. There was only one Dish Towel supplied for the kitchen (we had to buy some in Whitby). There was only one Hand Towel supplied for the whole house ( we bought some in Whitby) This is far short of basic requirements for a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. We also agree with previous guests that the Bath Towels supplied were far too small. The mattresses on all the beds were uncomfortable and all the pillows supplied were far too firm. The tube in the shaving light in the upstairs bathroom was not working and needs replaced. The outside light and the doorbell at the kitchen door were both not working. At the risk of being petty, 2 small 187ml bottles of wine does not add up to a bottle of wine (as stated on web site). In summary, the standard of cleaning and the condition of the bedding really lets the this property down. What should be a rating of 8 or 9 is reduced to a 4.

Had a lovely week at Kelp House, aided by the weather and the lovely views from the cottage. The property is pleasant, incredible location and is very well equipped. Overall it is a little tired, with decor in need of a refresh in places and carpets in need of a steam clean. Nevertheless it’s value for money and some pre homework will ensure you are stocked up ahead of arrival.
