Lochawe village, home of the renowned St Conan’s Kirk, lies on the A85 trunk road and is set on the shores of the stunning inland Loch Awe. Well served locally by a well-stocked general store and post office, a hotel, an inn and good rail and road connections to/from Oban, Glasgow and the south. Further services can be found in the village of Dalmally, some two miles east, including a doctors’ surgery, chemist, church and a popular 9 hole golf course. A more comprehensive range of shops, supermarkets, professional services and leisure and recreational facilities can be found in Oban to the west. Glasgow Airport and the cities of the central belt are within reasonably easy reach.
Loch Awe is Scotland’s longest fresh water loch and has superb fishing, enchanted islands and deserted castles to explore. It has a number of beautiful attractions to visit, including Kilchurn Castle, St Conan’s Kirk and Cruachan Visitor Centre all within 5 minutes’ drive. Nature lovers will be spoilt for choice with many nature and forestry reserves offering walking and cycling routes, all available locally. This part of Argyll has miles of unspoilt countryside with fantastic mountain, woodland and coastal walks to enjoy. There is abundant wildlife to see whilst out exploring, but for a great day out and a chance to see seals, a boat trip around up Loch Etive is not to be missed. Beach 23 miles.
