• About Kirk House

This beautifully restored church lies amidst rolling hills and lush countryside in the stunning northern Highlands of Scotland.

Kirk House is an outstanding restoration of a former 19th-century Scottish Free Church. Built of stone, the exterior of this original Victorian church has been completely preserved, offering no hint of the incredible transformation within. Award-winning Scottish architects have designed an interior that has resulted in an ultra-modern contemporary space, which maximises light and height to create the ultimate in modern living. The main door opens onto an entrance vestibule, off which there is a wet room with a shower and toilet. The kitchen/dining room is open plan and has been completed to an exceptionally high specification, including two ovens, a 5-ring induction hob, two fridges and a coffee making machine. A feature wood burner in the dining area with comfortable chairs gives a living room atmosphere. A fascinating corridor with floor to ceiling shelving houses books, objects of art, vintage Scottish-themed comic postcards, and an extensive collection of carefully chosen DVDs. This leads to two beautifully presented double bedrooms and a well-appointed guest bathroom. Solid wood stairs lead up to the main living room. This superb room has a floor to ceiling window that drinks in the light and emphasises the height and space contained within. There is a 55” television and a desk for a laptop or map reading, to plan the next day’s excursion. The master bedroom is on this floor; a stunning room with a 6’ bed, dressing room and adjoining bathroom.
Kirk House is situated on the main trunk road that leads from Inverness in the east to Ullapool or the Isle of Skye in the west. Whilst not overlooked in any way, it provides easy access to the north, south, east or west. The surrounding area is well known for a wealth of outdoor pursuits as well as unspoilt scenery in all directions. Golf, walking, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, kayaking and fishing are all enjoyed locally. There are good local services in nearby Dingwall, Strathpeffer and Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. Beach 25 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 6 miles.

Kirk House is an excellent place to stay and Paul, the owner a good host. Inside the house and we could not find fault. Clean, modern, comfortable, warm, everything you could possible need and all of the highest quality. The traffic noise is significant but the proximity of a main road means it's easy to go out and explore Scotland. The proximity of a railway line is of no consequence. The outside sitting area and parking space could do with a tidy up. Overall...fantastic!

If you are looking for the following from your holiday accommodation then Kirk house is for you. Exceptionally spacious. Unique environment. Stunning views. Excellent walks, on your doorstep, for you and the dog. Owner that has thought of every little comfort and amenity you might need, down to the tick removal tool for the dog, although being May it was tick-free, yeah! Having a number of great sights/areas/beaches to visit within an easy drive. A Cuckoo to serenade you in the evening, again probably a May thing. Oh and wonderful black cheese in the fridge that we thought was either: black pudding, or a fresh soap. We chose the soap option, oops! Mind you i have to say that it was very moisturising. My advice? Read the black book manual (and enclosed letter detailing said cheese) on arrival and you will have an even better holiday. Thank you Paul for the great holiday and apologies about the cheese! Honestly...some people eh?

Had a fantastic holiday at kirk house. It is every bit as beautiful as the photos. The house its self is large and spacious. And all the equipment in the house is first rate. We were made to feel welcome from the minute we walked in. The only issues are the location, as you need transport, and cant walk into garve itself without walking along the main road, you can however access other walks to the north. The house Bible describes local walks all round, and has books, maps etc available for you to refer to during your stay. All round we had a fantastic relaxing, yet busy holiday. I would happily return again.

Perfect location to explore the Highlands in all directions. We made Sandwood Bay, Benn Eighe, Gairloch, Torridon, Donrobin Castle, Glen Moray Whisky, Stac Pollaidh and even Cairngorms. Great and luxury house to relax and enjoy evenings. Wonderful trails nearby and further away. Very nice host with sense for details and customer relation.

Absolutely superb property with everything you would need and more. Arrived to a very generous welcome pack left by Paul the owner and a warm house which after a long day of travel was most welcome. This former chapel is truly beautiful and credit must go to the owner for the work done to make it so. From a stunning large dining room / kitchen and all the modern appliances to the spectacular upper floor living area with fantastic views through large light encapsulating windows. A DVD library which I very much doubt you would find in any other accommodation provided plenty of use through the week. Under floor heating throughout the whole house was an obvious added luxury. Had lots of walks which were plentiful in the area. My son, who is a total walk enthusiast found it heaven having travelled up from London for the week, but enjoyed the house more than the walks which speaks volumes for its beauty. Many thanks Paul for the welcome, great communication and top quality of the property. I will be returning in January 2020 for a week with my wife, won't be surprised if my son demands another visit!! 10/10 and without doubt one of if not THE best property in Scotland I have resided in.

Kirk House is just a perfect location for a break in Scotland. The quiet village of Garve is just a few miles from local shops and restaurants but. The house itself is exceptional. It's clear the owner, Paul, has gone to great lengths to provide the highest quality of everything for guests. Welcomed to the cottage by a lovely selection of local produce. The beds were very comfy, big TV to relax to at night and fast WiFi. Paul also has the best selection of DVDs I've ever seen in a holiday cottage. Would definitely stay again.

Staying at Kirk house was an absolute pleasure, Paul made sure everything was ready for our arrival and his little touches like picking up some local cheese and bread and fresh flowers was such a nice touch after a long drive. The pictures simply do not do the house justice, it was an incredible place to call home for a week, and well equipped with an array of books and dvds to sit through. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here, Paul has done a great job so far in his first year

The house was palatial. Absolutely wonderful. We had the most peaceful and relaxing time there with lots of places to visit. The flowers in every room was really appreciated and the extra food/drink that Paul supplied us with was amazing. Too beautiful for words.

We had a fantastic holiday at Kirk House. The property is beautiful, really well equipped and the owner provided the best welcome pack we’ve had. Garve is some way from any major shops, but that wasn’t a problem for us. The setting was lovely and it made a great base for exploring the Highlands.

We had a lovely holiday at Kirk House in Garve. The house itself is beautiful and is fully equipped and wonderfully comfortable. We loved the wood burning stove, the plentiful hot water for baths after days spent outside enjoying the lovely countryside. The welcome pack of food and drink items was much appreciated particularly the local cheese and bread which we then went in search of to buy to take home. Fresh flowers in every room was such a nice touch. Garve is a great location for visiting the north west and north east coasts. We played golf at Ullapool, Bonar Bridge-Ardgay and Strathpeffer, visited Dunrobin Castle which was a great day out, and climbed Munros. Local walks too were lovely. If we can we will return.

We loved staying in Kirk House for the week. We arrived to find that everything we would need to get started was included as a welcolm, along with fresh flowers in every room. It was fun trying to work out all the modern gadgets in what is a very stylish and contemporary home. Don't be put off thinking that you don't want to stay in a church, as once you are inside you would never know as the conversion is excellant. We were very unlucky with the weather, so hope to return to Kirk House again in the future.

Kirk House has been modified superbly and is a very comfortable property. The decor and furnishings are just superb. The selection of books, dvd's and OS maps is outstanding. Paul has thought of everything and the quality of crockery, cutlery and equipment is extremely high. The welcome pack was considerable and of good quality. All in all this is probably the best holiday home we have been to in Scotland.
