    Location: 4km NW of Bois-de-Céné (small shops, hiking tours, dances), 6km SE of Bouin (shops, cafés), 15km N of Challans (supermarkets, shops, restaurants), 17km NE of Le Passage du Gois (causeway to Noirmoutier, beaches, fishing ports, salt lakes), 32km SE of Pornic (port and beach resort), 50km SW of Nantes (major city with airport and historic centre).

    This single storey, detached holiday house features original stonework and exposed beams as well as modern comforts such as a fully-fitted kitchen and digital TVs. The villages of Bois-de-Céné and Bouin are nearby with seasonal markets and essential supplies, whilst Beauvoir or Challans offer a wider range of shops and restaurants. Try to visit the pretty island of Noirmoutier, accessible by the causeway twice a day at low tide or via a bridge, with its lovely beaches, or the pretty resort of Pornic.

    Approximate distance to Nantes airport is 56 km.

    The house is spacious with 5 bedrooms. However it could do with an update and a coat of fresh paint. The soft furnishings in the lounge are drab and look dirty. There is 1 main bathroom and a separate shower room but with 9 people staying there it really needs at least 1 more shower. There was a strong and pervasive smell of drains in the shower room. The heated pool was wonderful in weeks 1 and 2 but in week 3 we simply couldn't use it because is was heavily contaminated and had a lot of algae and bacterial contaminants. We had 2 tiny, twin granddaughters with us and the pool was a health risk to them in the 3rd week. Maryse and her husband did their best to try to make it useable again but really the pool needed to be fully drained and the water completely replaced. Since the pool represents a significant part of the cost of the house rental this was a concern to us. When we arrived we had to deep clean the fridges because they were dirty and one of them was disgusting. I did email the owner enclosing a photograph and he apologised. The barbecue mesh was badly rusted and we had to buy a temporary replacement mesh in order to use it. The owner did offer to reimburse us for this but we opted to take it home with us instead. To finish on a high note the hot water supply was superb and the washing machine, tumble drier and dish washer were excellent. Also, the wild life surrounding the property was a delight with coypu everywhere and a huge range of birds, insects, frogs and lizards.

    We enjoyed a very pleasant week at La Grange. The cottage is set in a beautiful area and we saw loads of wildlife really close to the house including swans, herons and a friendly heard of cows! The house is well laid out with plenty of room for our party of six. It was very clean when we arrived and we opted to clean at the end of our stay rather than pay €60. The electricity charge was just under €50 for our week. It would have been good to understand ahead of time what the unit rate would be. The WiFi was well used by the 2 teens in our group but is limited to the kitchen and dining area. The outside area is ok. The pool is fenced in and has a cover so felt secure enough for the 2 younger members of the group. The garden is fenced in completely so there was no risk of anyone straying in to the drainage channels that surround the property. The biggest issue for us was the lack of covered space when you sit around the pool. We had read other reviews that commented about this so we took a pop up gazebo with us that proved to be a god send. The sun rises at the front of the property and sets at the rear so the whole pool area is bathed in sunshine all day. This was lovely but it got really hot so some shade was appreciated by all. There is a large table outside the kitchen with 2 parasols but this is outside the pool area. We had a great week overall and would recommend the property for people who want to get away from it all and enjoy some chilled out time in beautiful surroundings.
