Further afield, the countryside is peppered with picturesque towns like Beauly and Strathpeffer and historic places of interest such as Culloden Battlefield, Fort George, Cawdor and Brodie Castles and Thomas Telford’s Caledonian Canal. To the south you can search for the elusive monster at Loch Ness and cruise on its deep waters. Set in the deep forested recess of the Great Glen, the area is a magnet for water sports, walkers and wildlife lovers who come to see the red deer, ospreys, eagles, red squirrels and the reclusive pine marten. Set on the magnificent Moray Firth, voted in the top 20 of the world’s best coastal destinations, Nairn is a Victorian seaside resort full of fun and adventure for children and adults alike. An old fashioned promenade, perfect white sandy beach and the prospect of spotting the famous bottlenose dolphins of the Moray Firth along with a championship golf course and forest trails for cycling and walking provide plenty of choices for outdoor entertainment. Further afield you can take a trip to the beautiful Isle of Skye or the Orkney Islands, well worth, what would be a stunningly scenic journey to either.
