It is approached down a private driveway through a meadow and a gate leading to a gravelled parking area. A large oak porch leads into this delightful accommodation where furnishings and fittings are of the a highest quality and spectacular unspoiled south west facing views across the Amber Valley make this the most unique of properties. The property is entered into via a large entrance hall off which are the main reception rooms. To the rear of the hall through double glazed doors is the fully equipped kitchen which is open to the south facing conservatory style dining area that has some occasional seating and fold back glazed doors opening onto a large wrap around patio. A large teak table and chairs a custom steel barbecue and a well-stocked herb garden cater for any alfresco dining requirements in addition to sun loungers spacious lawns and stunning views. The living room situated at the rear with comfy seating and doors opening onto patio and lawn features a wall-mounted wood-burning stove creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. There is a further studyTV room with board games and seating and a cloakroom. The stairs lead to the open gallery landing giving access to the bedrooms. Gardens and meadowland surround the property and there are also footpaths from the doorstep. Within a mile of the property is the World Heritage site that houses the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning factories and just under 4 miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars. Slotted in between are more traditional pubs restaurants tea shops and ice cream parlours. Here visitors can experience a cable car ride up the dramatic face of the gorge The Heights of Abraham and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area.     We had a fabulous family weekend at Lamp cottage. Cottage was spotlessly clean and suited us perfectly. All facilities were great. Biscuits were very nice but more of welcome pack would have been appreciated e.g tea and a few cakes to welcome guests .

    We returned to Lamp Cottage after previously visiting 6 years ago, and I must say the place now needs some TLC. The advertised "welcome pack" consisted of a packet of cheap biscuits. The house was not cleaned properly. Only 1 toilet roll per room. Dirty BBQ, which I reported immediately, but nothing was done, so we cleaned it ourselves. Dodgy electrics, but most annoying was the awful smell in the main bedroom caused by faulty drainage when the ensuite was used. These matters have been reported on previously but ignored, and not corrected. This is advertised as a luxury property, and I draw your attention to the prices quoted for peak times next year!!

    The cottage is very good, lovely quiet situation with good views. We all enjoyed our stay. There are a few maintenance issues which we reported when we left, but these did not affect our stay. It is probably due an overall check as there were some marks on rugs, one corner kitchen cupboard could not be used as broken, the patio seat cushions are now quite grubby. However, we were warm, comfortable and loved the views. The butcher in Holloway is fantastic, but it's a shame that there is not a pub within walking distance.

    The cottage was lovely and the view stunning. However, we do think that it is now showing signs of neglect. It could do with a professional deep clean, especially the furniture and rugs. Also the smell of drains in the utility room and bedroom/bathroom above needs addressing. The garden, though good for our very young grandchildren to play in, was definitely not enclosed as advertised, which had been one of the features that led us to book this cottage. Overall, we think the 5 star rating is rather over generous.

    Outstanding property and amenities. Abundance of space for leisure and eating with well fitted kitchen. Modern bathrooms with good showers. Lack of information on operation of heating system. Television was not working properly in lounge and not fixed whilst we were there.

    It was a beautiful cottage but lacked equipment, needs a bit of maintenance. Only a few very shallow bowls, had to use a mixing bowl for our porridge, taking turns between 3 of us. No baking trays, had to use cake tins to put garlic bread on. Load of cake tins but no basic baking trays. Only 1 toilet roll supplied for each bathroom. No washing up liquid. Barbeque disgusting, hadn't been cleaned for ages, wouldn't use it. No control for underfloor heating downstairs. Showers bit tatty, mould and one didn't have shower head on small one. Some of sockets didn't work and extractor fan in bathroom didn't appear to work. electrics seemed a bit dodgy. Website says pub within walking distance, closed 15 years ago, need to use a car to get to a pub.
