It is ideally situated for the coastal path, yet still enjoy a peaceful and tranquil setting for abundant local wildlife. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing and angling. Torquay is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. It is a place in which to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a holiday in a classic English seaside resort. Torquay town centre and Living Coasts are about 5 minutes away. Oddicombe Beach is also close by, and discover the shopping area of St Marychurch, a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the harbour area. Oddicombe Beach can be reached by foot down a very steep, wooded lane, or choose a more gentle ascent on the historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway. One of only a few original working funicular railways, the Babbacombe Cliff Railway has been transporting visitors up and down the 240 foot cliff-face since 1926.
