• About Lee Cottage

Cut off from the mainland twice a day by the incoming tide, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne allows visitors to experience complete tranquillity and timelessness, and these Grade II listed fishermen’s cottages are ideally placed to enjoy this unique location. The cottages offer contemporary comfort yet retain their original charm and character, and are within walking distance of the harbour and long sandy beaches. The island, a fine walking and bird watching destination, is dominated by 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop – the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning, are close by. Across the causeway, Northumberland’s many delights; Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands’ bird and seal colonies, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens, all of which are within easy driving distance. A lockable interconnecting door allows both cottages to be booked together. Local carry-out meals available. Shop 200 yards, pubs serving food 500 yards.

We found this cottage to be a perfect location for our long weekend and would definitely return. It was also ideal for our two dogs and well equipped and clean.

Love love love Holy Island. Such a great place small compact and bijou. Beware at this time of year that many places maybe closed when the tide is in. We loved this part of the island. The Crown & Anchor became our favourite haunt great staff with good food and drink too. The cottage was ideally located but needs to be updated somewhat. TV didn’t work, DVD did, WiFi only worked in bathroom. For us this wasn’t too much of a problem as we roamed the island with Malcolm the chocolate lab who loved it. This would not be ideal if we had the teenage daughters with us. The cleaner needs to learn how to clean. Cobwebs in every room and this is the middle of winter. Plates chipped and some still dirty in the cupboards. Would we go back yes we would. Might come as a surprise to many reading this but it is a magical island if you love remoteness going for long walks and not seeing anyone. Beach about five miles long and only my wife, Malcolm and myself on it. Amazing

The property has all necessary equipment and furniture. However, it was not clean. On arrival, there was a dishcloth in a bowl of bleach and water in the kitchen, the kitchen sides hadn't been cleaned and there was a pile of crumbs behind the toaster. The kitchen drawers wre filthy - i cleaned them out. There were three pubic hairs under the toilet seat. I wiped the bathroom shelf and the bedroom chests of drawers - the cloth came away dirty. Several cups and plates were chipped. The z-bed was extremely uncomfortable, and not suitable for use by an adult. We cannot recommend this property.

The island is beautiful, oozing an atmosphere of relaxing tranquility when the day visitors have left. The elements and landscape provide the opportunity of invigorating exercise and the welcome from locals extremely warm. Our stay lived up to high expectations. The cottage is comfortable and cosy and in a perfect location at the centre of the village. Amenities are few but that adds to the charm. Our only criticism would be the cleanliness of the cottage. I would expect the standard to have been higher.

QIf somebody is under 5ft tall, then I would recommend it to them. Just recovering from the thumping head from keep banging my head on the sloping roof.

The visitors book spoke volumes when it spoke about dirty, broken crockery dating back years, and the items in question still had not been replaced. This is a very quaint cottage that is let down by a lack of cleanliness and poor upkeep. For example we didnt expect to have to clean out the shower tray and remove hair from god knows how many previous guests !

Lovely well equiped cosy cottage. Warm, fantastic shower. Pretty little garden attracting wildlife, lovely to relax and chill in. Quaint and quintessentially English. We thoroughly enjoyed out time there and our time on the island. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Holy Island is a beautiful place to have a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately we found Lee Cottage a little tired and dirty, for example the fridge and the bread bin needed cleaning and windowsill had not been dusted in a while. The whole place felt like it needed a good spring clean. On the plus side the owner was very helpful when I had a problem and the cottage was warm.

Lovely little cottage with peaceful, sunny back garden. We had a delightful retreat here - really rejuvenating. Only thing that could do with an upgrade is the bed and linen, but the rest was tip-top.
