    This stunning lodge enjoys a superb location in wonderful countryside in a woodland clearing on a 25-acre sheep/grass farm with an abundance of wildlife. Set on the edge of the Exmoor National Park and within a short drive of the graceful market town of Bampton, Dulverton, Tiverton and the county town of Taunton, makes this an ideal touring base. On Exmoor, it is still possible to find tranqulity and peace, also maybe catch a glimpse of some wild red deer. The area offers fantastic opportunities for walking, riding and cycling. Knightshayes Court, Dunster Castle and Watersmeet (all NT) are well worth exploring, and the West Somerset Railway runs nearby. Wimbleball Lake, 10 miles, is ideal for sailing. Clatworthy Reservoir, 6 miles, has some lovely walks and has fishing available. In addition, there are some further fishing lakes within 3 miles. Shops 4 miles, pub serving food 1 mile.

    This great cottage lies just off the B3227 near Waterrow, so the accessibility is very good and it makes for a fine starting point if you're travelling to other parts of the county. We had a warm welcome (a bake and home-grown vegetables) by the owners who live on the same grounds in a converted barn. There's a small supermarket at Wiveliscombe but mostly we travelled to Tiverton to do our shopping, a 20 minute drive. Outside there are a lot of trees between which you get glimpses of the fields beyond but there's enough open space for plenty of sunshine. There's a lot of space anyway. The wood-build cottage itself has a great veranda. The inside was to our liking as well, although, due to its build, a tad dark. The interior was fine but could do with a bit of modernising. Of note: there's a washing machine but no dishwasher; no wifi either to the chagrin of our boys! One of the two bedrooms (with the twin beds) has an en suite bathroom. The other bathroom has a bath in which to shower. The beds (always important) were fine. All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Lilicomb cottage. Generally really quiet with great starry skies, very nice owners and a cottage that grows on you. Should we plan to visit the area again we'll certainly look at its availability.
