A fabulous cottage, a beautiful place both to relax during the storms and for using as a base to explore. The road in/out was pretty tiny in places, not the nicest drive, but the little village, pub and cottage were just perfect. I would have loved a non-stock dry pan, but this was my only real concern.

Lovely comfortable cottage, in the heart of the beautiful Lakes. Great views and lovely touches throughout the accommodation, making it very homely. Also a great base for getting out and about.

A very pretty building with lovely outdoor seating in a beautiful village. Right at the the foot of Grizedale Forest so perfect for walking. Quite easy parking. The building has the bedroom and bathroom downstairs just off the main side door where you park. We found it quite difficult to keep clean and clear of all our muddy boots and coats and stop mud and dust treading into the bedrooms. There is nowhere to keep outdoor kit save a couple of hooks on the door and an active family of four have a lot of kit! Boots, day packs, sticks, more coats! Nowhere to hang /store wet stuff after a days walking. So we had to pile it all in the hall way between rooms. We didn’t want to tread muck all through very lovely kitchen and upstairs so we made do. Unfortunately there was very limited cleaning resources - a sweeping brush and useless elderly hoover. A bargain bin dustpan and brush would have been very useful to sweep out all the mud we brought in but we managed with the companion set from the log burner! Kitchen fridge was a bit sticky as were all the surfaces indicating a ‘quick wipe’ but bathroom and loo were spotless. We were left a nice bottle of Merlot and bag of co-op filter coffee in way of a welcome basket but a few teabags and some milk and a fresh dish sponge would have been more appreciated. A holiday property with a dishwasher should also provide a few dishwasher tablets - a used sponge and an inch of wash up liquid seems a bit thoughtless. Some tinfoil and extra tea towel etc would make cooking and cleaning for family a bit easier. I think the cottage is geared up for stay home gin drinking (on fabulous outdoor furniture!) couples who are eating out. It’s not for active outdoor groups. No towels provided but a washer to freshen up our own - had to google the programme cycle though as it has no instructions on the drawer or in the cottage info pack. Also the freezer is in full churn as it’s in need of a defrost and doesn’t close properly. A few thoughtful touches. A boot shelf and boot tray, a few more coat hooks and a dustpan and brush would have scored it 10/10.

Lovely barn, warm, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. One or two minor issues with cleanliness of crockery etc. Wood-burner greatly enjoyed.

This is a beautiful spacious cottage, and in a quiet location. This is the best cottage we have stayed in within the Lake District. It was so relaxing looking into the fells from the living room window. Also the decking area was well equipped and spacious. We would certainly return to this characteristic cottage.

We had a brilliant time at Marigold. As soon as we walked through the door we were impressed. Very well equipped and lovely barn conversion. Brill views out through the patio doors. We felt very welcome in the village and very relaxed. The barn is right next to Grizedale and you only have to turn from left Marigold walk or bike up the hill and right up the bridle way and your on grizedale bike tracks and walks in 5 mins. Ideal base for fell walking etc. Highly recommend Marigold Pete & Karen

We stayed over the Christmas break and had a wonderful time in Marigold Barn, a real home from home. It was tastefully furnished, wonderfully cosy and even complete with Christmas decorations! I'm big into cooking and wasn't expecting such an excellently equipped kitchen, which was fantastic. The wood burner was a real centrepiece of the property and the first box of logs were provided. Wifi worked great. We really couldn't rate this cottage any more highly, and the Satterthwaite village, the hospitality of the locals and the Eagles Head pub in the village all made us feel like we were long lost friends. Would definitely return and recommend.

This was a delightful cottage and we really enjoyed our holiday here. It is beautifully decorated with a great open fire and wonderful views from the lounge. It feels loved and well cared for. The kitchen is has everything you need and the bathroom has a hot and powerful shower. It’s a spacious 2 bed cottage. It was everything we hoped it would be. It's a quiet location, but you can walk 5 minutes to the local pub which serves pleasant food and has a good atmosphere. It’s right by Grizedale Forest. We loved Go Ape with our young daughter. Everything is a drive away as it’s a rural village. But the local amenities of Hawkshead were charming. Positioned between Windermere and Coniston meant there was no shortage of things to see and do. We can recommend The Drunken Drunk for dinner and Chester’s by the River for lunch/ coffee. Overall it was a lovely holiday and the cottage was perfect. .

We have stayed in numerous cottages around Hawkeshead and Marigold Cottage has to be in the top 3 The cottage was bigger than expected and all needs met in a beautiful location. The fresh flowers on the coffee table was a beautiful extra touch. We will most certainly return.

We really enjoyed our stay at Marigold Barn. The cottage was in a lovely location with great views, and had all the equipment we needed. The local pub in the village is just a few minutes walk away, with a friendly atmosphere and some local ales. There is a visitor centre for the National Park 1.5 miles away in Grizedale, where you can do Go Ape, hire bikes, and start many different lengths of walk. If you're a hiker, then Coniston Water to the West and Esthwaite Water to the East are both only 2-3 hours away. If you are more interested in the celebrities of the lakes, Wordsworth's house at Grasmere is about 40 minutes drive away, and Beatrix Potter lived on the edge of Esthwaite (but we walked there). You can also easily get to Ambleside and Coniston to sample the local coffee/tea shops and do the tourist thing. All in all, we found this to be a great place to stay, with lots to do nearby.
