Marina View is a beautifully decorated, contemporary Victorian cottage overlooking Whitby Marina. With views of the abbey and boasting private parking, this terraced property is ideally located for a relaxing break, yet within a short walk of the hustle and bustle of the busy fishing town of Whitby. The garden area is perfect for sitting out with a drink and taking in the wonderful views. The location couldn’t be better for exploring both the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Known for its connections with Captain James Cook, Whitby boasts a 3-mile stretch of sandy beach, a colourful harbour and a marina, all overlooked and almost protected by the 12th-century abbey ruins and St Mary’s church. Keep an eye on the calendar for the numerous festivals and events that take place each year, from the famous Goth Weekenders to Whitby Regatta and music festivals. There is always something going on in this wonderful coastal town.

The Whitby to Pickering Steam Train passes the front garden, watch the steam rise and hear the engines whistle and roar. Enjoy a memorable journey into the well known villages of Grosmont and Goathland, made famous by the TV series ’Heartbeat’. The North York Moors is just a few miles from the door, where bridlepaths and cycle paths abound, and pretty little villages tucked away deep in the valleys are home to country pubs and inns, serving some of Yorkshire’s finest cuisine and where friendly locals wait to greet you. The market towns of Pickering, Kirkby Moorside, Helmsley and Guisborough host weekly markets and are easily accessed. Historic homes, halls and castles surround the area, and there are art galleries, museums and theatres all available. Explore the Yorkshire Heritage Coast with its links back to the days of pirates and smugglers. Bays and coves are hidden all along this stretch of coastline, such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding areas, from walks to traditional seaside resorts such as Scarborough. You will want to come back time and time again. Beach 500 yards. Shop and pub 100 yards, restaurant 200 yards.

While we were happy with the location of the property, the updated kitchen and the space of the home...there were some glaring issues. When my husband arrived at the property he immediately noticed there was a I large pile of garbage bags and loose garbage right outside the back door leading up to the alley way where the trash bin sits. He called Yorkshire Cottages and left a message advising them of the issue and asking if they would please send someone over to clean it up. We NEVER got a call back. I arrived a day later and went through the home to take pictures. There is a glass ceiling over the kitchen. A dead bird was splayed across the glass along with a ton of debris. In order to cool the kitchen, you have to open the windows in the ceiling, which we hesitated to do because the debris from the glass would blow into the kitchen while we prepared meals. I also found crumbs in the kitchen drawers and I had to rinse the dishes, cookware and silverware before using. After we'd been there for almost a week, we went to the management company office and told them about the issues. The woman was apologetic, advised that it was a change over day and that it may take a while before they could get someone out there, but that they would. We waited until the day before we were scheduled to leave. No one came. We left a day early and will not be using that service for future stays. My advise to the owner of the Marina View home is to get a new management company!

This was the second time we have stayed in marina view. We got there to find a decapitated bird on the kitchen roof ( head and all ) left up there. We had no working microwave, no working oven for 3 days so had to get take aways, after spending £120 on food for 10 people to cook while we were there. The oven didn’t work which was fixed by Monday ( we arrived Friday ) promised a microwave would be dropped off ( it never was ) hot water wouldn’t work unless the heating was on 30!!! Which was making everyone feel ill as the house was so hot. Was promised a reimbursement by cottages for you if I kept the receipts for the take outs we had to get ( didn’t happen ) also the £120 we spent on food to cook ourselves had to be thrown out as the freezer didn’t freeze anything!! Everything was soft like it had defrosted turns out the freezer was going on and off sporadically as we noticed two days before we left.

.We are a family of six adults, two children, two dogs and we had plenty of space. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept well, two decent size living rooms and the kitchen has good quality appliances , good location and you have one parking space, there are other parking spaces but you have to really look for them, but we knew that that before we went. You can walk into the centre of Whitby in ten minutesand the steep inclines in Whitby and the stairs in Marina View will test your fitness.

We all enjoyed our stay at Marina View . The only faults we found was the lack of hanging space for our clothes . A rail in the alcoves would have been adequate also a mirror in the bedroom by a plug socket to do your hair would have been handy

Brilliant location overlooking river and marina. Good walks nearby. Stairs and more stairs - keep you fit. Rooms well decorated and furnished. Liked little lights up the side of the stairs. We ate breakfast and lunch on the patio overlooking the view in April at Easter! combination of modern kitchen and Victorian rooms worked well.

We enjoyed are visit to Whitby and our stay in Marina View. However, Marina View could do with tidying up a bit. Doors that don’t close properly in the kitchen and bedrooms. The general decoration could do with a once over. The main master bedroom could benefit from the addition of a wardrobe to replace the open hanging arrangement they have now, also in another bedroom. The log fire in the upper living room wasn’t working and you’re not allowed to use the other two. The en-suite in the master bedroom is set up so there is no door which doesn’t suit everyone! Very few instructions for the place and not where you’d expect them to be. The heating was on full blast when we arrived it was unpleasant we thought the thermostat was broken until we realised the boiler was turned up full ( cupboard in the master bedroom).
