Megstone is a lovely detached house, situated in a development of similar style properties, on the fringe of the traditional village of Seahouses. The accommodation is exceptionally well presented throughout and enjoys a bright and airy ambience. On the ground floor, a living room leads to a dining room and a good sized kitchen. There is also a useful utility room with a washing machine. The first floor offers a family bathroom along with four bedrooms; the master enjoying the convenience of an en-suite shower room.
Seahouses offers a wide array of facilities including tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and shops, all within easy walking distance of Megstone. Horse riding is available only 200 yards away and there is an impressive golf course on the links close by. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is only 2 miles north with its wide expanse of golden, and often empty, sandy beaches. From here, the tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island and the birth place of Christianity, can be viewed. A further two miles up the coastline brings you to Waren Mill, which is steeped in history. Once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Visit the bird sanctuary at Budle Bay, a haven for bird watchers! At low tide, a vast expanse of mud flats are the home to thousands of sea and land birds.
The inland market town of Alnwick, offers many facilities including its own castle. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction with its grand cascade waterfall, and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! A bit further to Seahouses than we thought, but overall a quite pleasant experience.

Not a great start - on arrival I found the key safe broken. There were cobwebs in the utility and the DVD player was thick in dust. Not major issues but first impressions are important. Two of the four bedrooms had no wardrobes or chests of drawers, and given the torrential rain over 2+ days, with 2 toddlers aged 5 and 1, the lack of a tumble drier was a real problem. On the plus side the house was generally comfortable and well equipped.

Great location. Seahouses is great place to explore Northumberland coast. House is very well placed for easy walking into town to cafes, pubs and shops and the coast. I think our visit was after house had been empty over winter and the house needed a deeper clean to start the season. However we soon sorted it out and had a great stay
