Merry Hall is a charming period property, believed to date originally from the 17th Century. Occupying a spectacular position on the western side of the Hambleton Hills on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in the picturesque village of Boltby near Thirsk. Retaining the original period feel of the property, the accommodation has a lived-in country feel with flag stone floor and oak floorboards throughout most of it. Logs are available and you are welcome to use the open fire or wood burner during your stay. Riding in the surrounding area is wonderful and guests are welcome to bring their horses, by prior arrangement, with several paddocks beyond the garden. There is a 5-furlong gallop on the land which guests can use, and it doubles as a great running track.
The flagged entrance hall leads off to 2 sitting rooms, one has seating for the whole family, the other is where children can gather to watch their choice of TV! Both have the BT package and Netflix available. There is a formal dining room with flagged floor and a welcoming farmhouse style dining kitchen with a flagged floor, granite worksurfaces, electric Aga cooker, larder fridge/freezer and large breakfast bar, making this a superb space to gather with family and friends. There is a further laundry/boot room with a washer and dryer, plus an area for drying clothes in wet weather. This room also makes an ideal dog room, warm with plenty of space for their beds. As long as the dogs don’t go upstairs, they are welcome to wander. The first and second floor accommodation is approached via an oak staircase and the bedrooms have the benefit of oak floors and exposed beams. Set up with 1 Queen bed, 1 double (en-suite) and 2 twin bedrooms serviced by large family bathroom equipped with roll-top bath to relax in.
There are many natural attractions within easy reach of the property, including the Hambleton Hills, the Howardian Hills (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and the North York Moors National Park offering miles of hill walking and outstanding scenery to enjoy. From the property there is easy access to an extensive network of bridleways and there is also a horse trekking centre based in the village. Boltby lies in a convenient location just a few miles east of the main A19 York – Teesside trunk road with easy access to the A1. Delightful Thirsk, with its 15th-century church and renowned racecourse is just miles away. James Herriot lived and worked there, and the Herriot Centre is the only veterinary science museum in the country. The medieval cobbled market square hosts a twice weekly market and is surrounded by individual shops, traditional inns and tea rooms. To the west lie the Yorkshire Dales, Ripon, the elegant spa town of Harrogate and the World Heritage Site at Fountains Abbey. To the east lie the market towns of Helmsley and Pickering, terminus for the North Yorkshire Moors steam train. Castle Howard and York are within an hour’s drive and easily accessible are Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes.
