An extremely comfortable cottage for a couple with a dog. We were welcomed by the friendly owner who provided fresh milk, chocolate biscuits, tea bags and coffee. What else could you want? There were lots of windows in the cottage and it was surrounded by trees giving a cosy atmosphere. Nice quiet area which gave us a very restful week. Thanks for a wonderful time, Ruth.

Lovely cosy cottage with everything you need, plus great walks and countryside nearby. Very peaceful and comfortable within easy reach of local shops and amenities and not far from a lovely beach in Winterton - which was dog friendly. Everyone was very helpful and friendly also - which is important when you don't know an area! The owner was very welcoming and it was thoughtful to be given a welcome pack when you arrive.

We have spoken directly to the owners and conveyed our disappointment. The following were the main issues: Cleanliness was poor, we arrived after the 16:00 checkin which gave ample time to prepare the bungalow, however the place had seen better days, cracked plaster on the walls, copious amounts of cobwebs and spiders in every room and lots of dust that had obviously taken some time to accumulate (e.g. the bathroom radiator and lampshade). The cutlery and crockery all had to be washed before they could be used as they had evidence of food on them (including the plate dryer on the sink draining board). In addition, the smell from the cesspit was overpowering which meant we had to close the windows on that side of the bungalow, stopping any airflow in the place in a particularity hot week. Whilst it was a dog friendly place there was an expectation that the previous occupants dog mess would have been cleared up, but we had to do this in our own garden and the walkway to the pool. The pool itself was green at the bottom of the water in the corners and the owners stated that it needed cleaning. We were hoping to use the pool but we didn’t see any evidence of cleaning by the time we left. We used to live in Norfolk, both of us were born and raised here, we also live in the countryside in the Midlands and know full well the issues of keeping up with dusting and cobwebs etc. The location was perfect for us to visit the coast which we did every day the weather allowed but as soon as the weather changed we felt we had no choice but to leave early. We left on Thursday morning, 2 days early as we couldn’t stay in the place any longer. We tried to talk to the owner on our departure however they were out. We telephoned her on our return to explain why we left and gave the feedback above, their response to the cleanliness of the bungalow was “welcome to the wonders of living in the country” and “we left insect spray for you to deal with the spiders”. I believe the owner is oblivious to the fact that the bungalow is not to a fit standard for paying guests and to have a plaque on the wall stating it was awarded 3 stars was a little far fetched, maybe when it was first built but certainly not today. We did take some photos but we feel these would be little use as the owner would probably not be interested.

The cottage was filthy. The door into the place was quite disgusting , the threshold was awful. All the wall lights were hanging in cobwebs , the shower cubicle looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for ages. The bed was dirty, I had to take the mattress cover off and I found dirt, grass and other things. I had to take everything off to give it a good shake then remake the bed. The. crockery was dirty we washed the things we were to use the scalded the and put them into a cupboard on a clean tea towel so we knew they were clean. On first entering the cottage the floor was covered in bits so I requested a vacuum cleaner and was told it had been vacuumed, I still insisted but after it was brought to the cottage I used it. That was a mistake as it smelt awful. The chrome bars around the cooker were sticky with grease. The place was much cleaner when we left but I should not have had to clean the place to a reasonable level. Finally the settee was so uncomfortable we had to use a blanket to sit on to make it slightly more comfortable. Their 3star rating needs to be down graded. We are not overly fussy people but we do expect a reasonable level of cleanliness.

We stayed only one night out of the seven, the living room/kitchen diner was poorly arranged. Very short of cupboard space around the cooking area. The cutlery, and dishes, plates cups and glasses were on the other side of the room. In a dresser with wonky doors. As for the cooking pans, they were disgusting, with tide marks in every one. I could not bring myself to use them and took them over to the owners house to show her. She replaced them with another set which quite frankly were almost as bad. I took photos. My wife who has Alzheimer’s, and after seeing me upset, would not settle and wanted to go home, in which we did next morning.
