We had a fab time away for our first wedding anniversary. The hot tub was amazing, we used it every day as the sun shined for us considering the amount of storms battering the country. This house is perfect as it’s 5 minutes from the centre of Alnwick and only a 20 minute drive to amble and 10 minutes to Alnmouth beach. You can go wrong with booking this house. There’s some bad reviews on here but for us they weren’t justified. Open fire, hot tub, clean and stumbling distance from the pub.... what more do you need from your holiday?

A lovely cottage a short walk away from the town centre Lots of local attractions and amenities

What a fantastic house. It is a home from home with everything that you could possibly want and more. Loads of equipment, comfy sofas and the beds were fine. Some people really will find anything to moan about! We couldn’t fault anything about Milburn House. Ignore the negative reviews and don’t let them put you off. The hot tub was fantastic and there is loads to do in the surrounding areas. The beaches are beautiful, Milburn House really is the perfect base. Michael gave loads of information about the local area to begin with and was always on hand if you needed anything. The house was lovely and clean and Northumberland is a great place to explore. Thank you for a lovely week, we’ll be back :)

Great location'nice hot tub but only one bathroom which is downstairs.

Positives:- Excellent location within easy walking distance of Alnwick Castle & Town Centre. Great dog friendly pubs, supermarkets & shops. Parking outside of the cottage. Hot tub was pleasant. Spacious dining area. Wii to play on. Negatives:- Beds extremely uncomfortable. I spent the week sleeping on the sofa because it was more comfortable. Only one TV in whole place so we all had to watch the same thing. This is a shame because there’s plenty of room in the dining area to fit a small sofa and TV. Limited cooking utensils. No dishes to cook a meal in. Had to go and buy some. No bread bin-had to go and buy one. Only one set of 5 plates and cutlery so had to wash up to be able to eat again rather than stacking the dishwasher full. Kitchen bin lid broken again just not hygienic. No grill pan to grill food on. No anti-slip mat in the shower! The place was not particularly clean. There were black dog hairs everywhere and dead insects on the windowsills. I did contact the owner who did come and give the place a quick clean for me and did provide the slip mat for the shower & bin for the bathroom, pillow protectors and a mattress topper for one of the single beds to try to make one bed more comfortable. Really surprised to be provided with just one bath towel each for the week. Not really sufficient and I’d have bought my own with me if I’d have known. We went and bought some hand towels from the shops. There were no pillow protectors on the pillows which is just really unhygienic. The floor in the kitchen had swelled and created a lump in the doorway forcing the edging up. This was snapped, loose and sticking out of the floor. Very dangerous. The owner did remove this once I told him about it although he did already seem to be aware. The bathroom floor wasn’t very clean again with just general dust and dirt. The extra freezer that is provided wasn’t there. There is just a fridge with a freezer drawer. The owner bought it with him and apologised that it wasn’t provided. It’s a real shame because it is a beautiful house and could be so lovely. I was just disappointed because a lot of the reviews were really positive so I guess I was expecting better. We actually went home the night before we were due to check out just because I couldn’t tolerate another night on the sofa. The guest book in the house does have comments from other guests mentioning that the beds are uncomfortable but this just hasn’t been actioned. Given the price we paid I expected better. I did thank the owner for coming and responding to the message I sent him but I shouldn’t have had to have got him back to clean the place in the first place. (I know there’s nothing the owner can do about it and it isn’t his fault but getting woken up every morning at 8.30 by the builders opposite and their circular saw was the final nail in the coffin.) I’m sure we will return to beautiful Alnwick and the surrounding area which were so lovely but we won’t be staying at Milburn house again.

We stayed here in August 19 and we found it clean and ideal for a week away. The welcome pack of wine, chocolates, biscuits and dog biscuits was a lovely unexpected surprise. Plenty of kitchen equipment for the 5 people that stayed, so much so we made a full sunday roast while it was raining on the Sunday. The kids played on the wii every day, which again was a lovely touch and they loved it. This is a lovely old house, full of character and is an excellent base to explore Northumberland. The shower was fast and hot and the hot tub was also an excellent addition which again was clean and ready to go.

Milburn house is an amazing holiday home. Furnished to a high standard with everything in it you could possibly need. The welcome pack from the owners was the best we’ve had from any holiday home. The hot tub was brilliant after days out to relax in the evening or on lazy days in. Great location to explore the local area of Alnwick on foot and a great base to explore wider afield.

Probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on . Some equipment in kitchen dirty and unusable. Yard and front garden unkempt and unappealing. BBQ old and unusable.

We had a lovely family week at Milburn House. A fantastic location and many places to visit on the doorstep. The house was great, plenty space and the hot tub a real gem! Will be keen to visit again in the future ??

This is the fourth time we've stayed at Milburn House and its always our first goto place when staying in Alnwick. The house is spacious, clean and well fitted out, the hottub is great! The owners are friendly and helpful, and there are lots of nice little touches that make a difference, there is always a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, biscuits and more importantly dog treats as a welcome . This year was our 30th anniversary and we walked in to find a bottle of prosecco, flowers, chocolates and an anniversary card as well. The location is perfect with the town centre a few minutes walk away and perfectly placed as a base to explore the area. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
