A beautiful, large clean house. If a full house were staying the kitchen would benefit from more dishes and cutlery but ok as there were only 4 of us staying. The owners were very welcoming and helpful.

Ian and jan where lovely hosts. Morningside is a lovely big house which worked well for our two families. The local town of hexham was an easy commute by car and bus and having a good pub on the doorstep was a bonus. Fab stay, the Abernethy's

We found the cottage to be of an ideal size for our party of 6 with room to spare and has sufficient bathrooms to avoid the typical morning getting ready rush. The cottage is furnished well throughout and was very clean. The kitchen was reasonably well supplied in respect of utensils, etc so we didn't experience the problems mentioned in some of the earlier reviews - although if there are 6 or more people in your party and you are going for a week, you may struggle to fit all of your food in the fridge - so be prepared to do a mid-week top-up shop. As mentioned by others, the wi-fi was very hit and miss. Typically it is only available in the main living room and we found that it frequently dropped connections. Also, if you absolutely must have a mobile phone signal, you may need to go stand out in the garden depending upon your network. We found those in the party on Vodafone had one bar, whereas other networks (EE & 3) had nothing at all inside the house. The garden is lovely and very spacious. A BBQ was also available for use, but this is not mentioned in the cottage description. However, what is also not mentioned in the cottage description is that the owners also live in the attached building and therefore the garden is not exclusive to the renters of the cottage with the owners frequently coming and going throughout the week and also sitting out in the garden themselves. The owners themselves described it as "an open house" where people come and go at any time. Whilst the owners themselves are very nice, it is not what we were expecting when we booked. On one occasion the owners opened the gates to the garden whilst our dogs were outside. This resulted in one of them running out and down the street. On another occasion, the owner decided to mow the lawn. I'm not quite sure why this could not have been done during the checkout time and check-in time of the next visitors when the cottage was empty. We are very careful to look for properties that have enclosed private gardens, and so we were not expecting to share our holiday with the owners. So if you are expecting to have exclusive access to the garden, this is not the property for you, and as such I think this needs to be made clear in the property description. Whilst the cottage and grounds are lovely, and the surrounding area beautiful, we did feel that our stay was tarnished by having to share the garden, resulting in us spending more time inside with our dogs than we would have liked.
