• About Oak Lodge

Lightwater Valley Theme Park, Forbidden Corner (a garden of surprises), Leyburn, Fountains Abbey, and Ripon, with its dominating cathedral are all within 10 miles. The elegant spa town of Harrogate is 20 miles and the historic city of York is 35 miles. Golf, cycle hire, riding, fishing and sailing 3 miles. Shops 3 miles, pub 1.5 miles.

Although warm and comfortable, bed was a low for an elderly person. The lodge looked a little tired and would benefit from an refresh .Found it strange to have a pink carpet in living area, especially as the lodge was dog friendly.

A lovely traditional wooden lodge, in a quiet setting, shared with 3 other lodges. The grounds are large and enclosed, apart from the main gate where you enter - which I imagine could be shut for more security, (we couldn’t do so due to deep snow) BUT, we would only consider staying here again if the bed was changed as it was far too low and uncomfortable. My husband and I are both in our mid fifties (and tall) so found it a real struggle, such a shame as we really enjoyed it otherwise. It was well equipped, but DOESNT SUPPLY TOWELS, which we consider an essential basic. It was also lovely and warm, and we didn’t mind having no WiFi as our phone signals were ok for texting. We took our two dogs and they had a great time in the snow. We took plenty of mats and covers so we could put them on the floor (which has a dusky pink carpet), and large throws to protect the sofas (as we knew they would go on them). There are lots of lanes around for walks in the area, and we loved having dog friendly pubs around. The Bay Horse in Masham, in particular, was a fabulous place - lovely friendly, and welcoming, plus the food was gorgeous - definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, due to the bad conditions with the snow, we didn’t get to explore as much as we would’ve liked, but it’s a lovely area with lots of nice little villages to see. Well worth a visit.

On first impressions the lodge seemed to be good but we did encounter a couple of problems. On our first morning staying in the lodge we were woken at 7am by workmen working on the lodge behind ours. Even though we were out for most of the day they didn't finish until around 5pm. Not great when you've had a long journey the previous day and you're hoping to enjoy a lie in!! The other issue we had was that the housekeeping wasn't as good as you would expect. The lodge overall was generally clean but we found very thick, grey dust behind the beds and around the bunks. On leaving the property we actually hoovered behind the double bed. Generally the location was ok but do be prepared to drive to a lot of places to visit.

Kitchen well equipped but place felt grubby. Sofa and bed uncomfortable. No towels provided which is unusual these days. Shower extremely underpowered... pretty location but very far away from civilisation.

Nice and warm when we arrived for Christmas and had everything we needed. The Oven did not work on the day we arrived, contacted the owner the following morning Christmas eve(no mobile signal in the immediate area)and the Oven was replaced with new within 90 minutes - very impressed. Just needs a new Sofa as very uncomfortable. Would highly recommend and would stay again.

Loved this lodge, complete relaxation in a perfect setting, just what we wanted. The lodge was welcoming and the fire was on when we arrived. We had taken everything with us including toilet rolls, washing up liquid and tea towel but these were provided. Some of the crockery could do with replacing but overall no complaints.0

Loved our stay in Oak Lodge it is remote but that's what we were looking for. Great country location within easy reach of Masham & Ripon etc. Lodge is a little tired in comparison with the newer lodges on site but still very comfortable. Excellent that dogs are permitted as we were able to holiday with our 3 terriers. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for the same as us

Poor standard of cleanliness, lack of equipment , broken fridge door , only one oven shelf so unable to Cook full meals , chickens were a nuisance couldn't sit outside at the bench or have the door open as the chickens came in the cottage . The kitchen needs upgrading as does the shower and bath. Double bed was to low and uncomfortable, bunk beds were ok but the ladder wasn't fixed so was dangerous, the sofa bed was a joke, so uncomfortable my son spent the rest of the week sleeping on the floor
