This is ideal for a large family perfect for weekends away with close proximity to fantastic transport links but situated deep in the countryside of Essex.\nOld Applecroft Farm Cottage is also detached with a farmhouse style and ideal for small families and couples.\nThe village of Great Henny is very rural but has all you need including a shop and riverside pubrestaurant. The ancient market town of Sudbury is nearby as is the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dating back to Saxon times there is a long history in the weaving and silk industries. Much of the work by Thomas Gainsbourgh was inspired by the beauty of Sudbury and you can visit his birthplace art gallery and museum exhibiting a number of his paintings. The area is particularly famous for the work of Constable and is referred to as ’Constable Country’. The River Stour provides the setting for much of his work. To the east you can visit Colchester with shopping restaurants and pubs.     We really enjoyed our time here, the location, near the Henny Swan, was super! The property has an easy network of footpaths to find. The pool table was a let down as it didn’t work, the response from our complaint about it was ineffective. The tennis table was great though, new bats and plenty of balls. We stayed here with someone who has limited mobility and with help they managed navigating their way around. This person rated the cottage highly though would like some handles on the stairs down to the toilet. Equipment was good, however no welcome pack as described, tho soap and toilet rolls throughout. I would stay here again but the more particular in our group would not.

    The drive leading to the cottage is quite narrow but once you arrive and are able to unlock the difficult lock and enter the cottage you find it’s layout is very spacious. The doors into the garden were also difficult to open and the back gate in the garden is rotten and doesn’t close or lock. The sliding doors from the lounge into the unheated and leaky roof into Games Room also do not lock.There was no where to hang our coats etc...in the spacious hallway with eight of us 4 being under 15 it was missed.The folder with minimal instructions on the property would benefit from the updating of Heating controls, recycling of green and glass waste, kitchen equipment usage of and any local walks. There were a lot of dead or dopey wasps emerging in the bathroom and two of the bedrooms each day, nowhere else so probably a wasp nest thereabouts which should be investigated. The Sebo upright vacuum remained upright so we could only use the hose attachment to clear up after young children which wasn’t ideal. Raised this with cleaning company but not resolved. Various other cleaning issues we had on arrival on the Friday were resolved by the Monday however we had to clean the fridge before we could utilise. No Welcome Gift , which website states there will be. Having read other reviews we went prepared with toiletries and basic condiments . The annex bedroom is large enough for a dressing table and chair, the light carpet has nasty stains which need to be addressed. The Location was the best part of this cottage, if the issues I have detailed are recognised and resolved I would love to return and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the place in comfort.

    Very nice cottage, very spacious but it felt a little unloved. Very rural, and approach road was extremely narrow, especially if you met another car. Would not want to have to back up 100 yards in the dark. Couldn’t gain entry into the house for about 20 minutes due to lock box being so hard to open and unable to reach the contact number because we were given the wrong number. However, once in we did have a pleasant week. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and very good pub 1 mile away.

    A really fantastic house, very comfortable in a lovely remote location. Taxi's had trouble finding it but if you want a real quiet house that can comfortably cope with 8 guests this is the place to go.
