• About Old Dolphin Cottage

An absolute gem! Time seems to have stood still at this truly delightful 500-year old thatched cottage, one of the most photographed in Cornwall. Featuring an ancient inglenook fireplace with an old cloam oven, timber panelled walls and original beams among its many charms, and all complemented with pretty period pieces and interesting artefacts, Old Dolphin Cottage is one of a pair nestling in pretty gardens just 50 yards from the shingle cove. Cadgwith itself is a place for relaxing - a thriving fishing community and one of the county’s most picturesque villages, its whitewashed cottages dot the valley slopes, fishing boats are drawn up on the beach, cream teas and great seafood are available and the locals regularly gather in the pub for an evening of traditional song. Scenic coastal walks lead to sandy beaches and Lizard Point, and a myriad attractions lie within easy reach. Shop 50 yards, pub 150 yards.

Lovely old cottage in a unspoilt village. A little tired though, garden unkempt .Very uncomfortable lounge, chairs hard as nails, set up meant you had your back to family if watching tv. Had to go and buy a pan as one given worn out. Weird having to walk through one bedroom to get to other! Usually you get left a nice welcome pack but a pint of milk and a little plate of cheap biscuits(not even a packet) a bit mean! Take your own towels as ones given only really hand towels. This could be a treasure but needs a little TLC. Pub in village very expensive.

Old dolphin cottage was a delightful picturesque cottage in the heart of cadgwith, u can hear the bustling of the locals bringing in the fish and chatting amongst themselves! It is a stunning little cove and the cottage is the prettiest fairy tale cottage u could ever wish for, inside it is very quaint, very clean and tidy and Wendy the caretaker, who was very friendly and helpful had lovingly left a vase of flowers out on the table and biscuits with tea and a small bottle of milk ready for our arrival, which was a very welcome surprise after a 7 hour drive down from Manchester. There was an information book with every bit of information we could need, with a local dog friendly beach guide and details of local doctors surgeries which I had to visit due to horse fly bites (the evil buggers). The walk up and down from the car park is a pain in the butt every day but as a regular visitor to cadgwith I was aware of the walk before booking so this had no reflection on the cottage itself!! The local people who lived around the area were lovely, welcoming and very friendly other than crabby Annie that sits in the fish shop window poking her pick into crabs legs all day long, she was very rude, very unwelcoming and even gave us the middle finger when she blocked the tiny country lane down to the cove and refused to let the oncoming traffic pass! She didn't spoil my stay, I loved the cottage and would sit imagining what it would be like to live in such a beautiful place, the only negative comments I have about the cottage itself is the number of tourists the cottage drew in, I felt like a celebrity with the paparazzi outside constantly being photographed and even entering the garden to stand in the door way to take pictures of themselves, (cheeky buggers), I spent many a morning photobombing pictures being taken or waving at people outta the window! I was also a little bit gutted that when booking the cottage I paid extra for my little shidtzu dog to come along and enjoy the holiday with us but when I arrived there was notices up stating I wasn't allowed to leave her alone in the cottage, this was a little bit annoying as the weather was glorious outside and way too hot for my dog to be out all day in it!! If I'd have known prior to booking and paying the extra money that she was unable to stay in like she does at home I'd have made alternative arrangements for her to stay with friends. All that said I had a fantastic time and will remember my stay in cadgwith for a very long time.

The Old Dolphin Cottage is a very quirky house. The Location is excellent. It could be a real gem, but it needs a refurbishment. Only the bathroom and the kitchen are ok. The furniture in the living and in the bedrooms is old and a mixture of everything. The house smells damp when you open the door. And the carpet in the kitchen/diner smells like dog urine. We would not book it again.

The bedroom arrangement meant you had to go through the main bedroom from the second one, in order to use facilities downstairs. This would be fine for a family perhaps but was entirely inappropriate for 2 couples staying there. As a result we had to find alternative accommodation at very short notice. A pity this layout had not been stated at the time of seeing the advertisement. A phone call to the lady running the cottage was not returned.
