Perfectly located right in the heart of the Georgian town of Richmond, Poppy Cottage is in the ideal location for guests wanting to enjoy a quiet romantic break surrounded by history, great architecture and plenty of places to eat, drink, browse and explore. Just a short walk along Richmond’s cobbled streets towards top quality restaurants, bistros and shops, guests will find an abundance of activities all year round. There is a farmers market that takes place on occasion on the cobbled market square as well as numerous tourist attractions to visit, including the historic castle that stands high on the hill and overlooks the thriving town below. Go fishing at Brompton Lakes which is two miles away, home to two coarse fishing lakes which are also close to the banks of the River Swale. Also perfect for walkers and cyclists, guests will find many woodland walks that pass right through the town and further beyond into the Yorkshire Dales. There are excellent riverside and woodland walks leading from the town and one of the most popular, is Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast walk. Within easy reach are many historic houses and National Trust properties which really are worth a day trip to visit, as well as the wondrous splendour of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which is within very easy driving distance. Perfect too for a day at the races, as Catterick Racecourse is only an 11-minute drive away and a little further afield, guests will be able to enjoy the splendour of the York races too (1-hour drive). Thirsk, Ripon, Yarm, Northallerton, Pickering and Leyburn are all close by and offer all of the welcoming hospitality that the county is famous for. There is even the opportunity to visit one of the dazzling Yorkshire beaches and coastline which is also only an hour’s drive away.
