• About Primrose

Enjoying a pretty coastal village setting and just 500 yards from the sweeping sands of one of England’s finest beaches, these cottages are part of Town Farm Cottages which were created from a 17th century stable and coach house. An ideal holiday base, these attractive, cosy and comfortable properties, five of which we offer here, sit on a courtyard in the heart of Beadnell village, a popular venue for water sports enthusiasts and boasting a picturesque harbour as well as a shop and two pubs serving food – all within a few yards’ stroll. Two miles to the north, Seahouses offers a variety of shops and tea rooms, a leisure centre and superb golf course, and boats depart regularly from its working harbour for fishing trips or to visit the Farne Islands’ famous seal colonies and bird sanctuaries. A further 3 miles up the spectacular coastline, a deservedly recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, lies Bamburgh – dominated by its splendid castle – whilst the causeway leading to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a little further. An easy 12 mile drive south reaches the market town of Alnwick with its castle, renowned as the film location for Hogwarts School and beside it, Alnwick Gardens, an exciting contemporary space featuring gloriously vivid planting, stunning water displays and one of the largest tree houses in the world. A wide variety of day trips from exploring the historic towns of the Scottish borders to shopping at Newcastle’s Metro Centre are also easily accessible.

No central heating as described - unable to dry soaking clothes. Unable to contact anyone for 24 hour, Offered another storage heater - and advised to put on a table. Not great health and safety with 2 young children. Also 'maintenance' man entered the property without us knowing whilst we were out.

The problems we encountered with Primrose were : 1. Cleanliness. On entering the cottage for the first time there was a bad smell, which we traced to the fridge. This was dirty, with solid food remnants on the sides and shelves, and with a large puddle of foul-smelling water. We had to clean the fridge thoroughly then air the cottage to get rid of the smell, which was particularly odious after a long and tiring drive. 2. Equipment. 2.1. There was no toilet brush, which is most unpleasant when one is required. Holidaymakers do not expect to have to go shopping for a toilet brush or rubber gloves. 2.2. There was no CD player despite one being included in the Accommodation Description. My wife is learning Italian so took her CD's with us and was very disappointed, particularly as we could easily have taken our own CD player had we known. 3. Supplies. We appreciate that owners are only asked to provide supplies to help visitors get started, but this cottage pared everything to the bone - washing up liquid sufficient for literally only two washes, and no spare bin liners. This gave us the feeling that every last penny of profit was being squeezed out of us, a feeling we have not had before in any cottage we have stayed in, and they are many over many years. 4. Directions. The last direction is to turn into a quiet cul-de-sac, so we were looking for a small tarmac entrance - there isn't one. This could be rectified if the last direction read "After about 100 yards take the first entrance on the left, a small brick-weave driveway between bungalows which leads to the gravel car park".

The location is great, close to a beautiful beach, pub and cafe a stone's throw away and local shop. The cottage is not at all welcoming, warning signs rather than warm welcome. Settees and beds very uncomfortable and worn. Carpet stains, dog claw gouges out of the door, debris under the beds, hand towel provided was covered in dog hair (I love my dogs but keep human towels separate!!!) The kitchen has no storage for food. Taps in bathroom loose, chest of drawers in bedrooms so cheap they had fallen to bits and the screws left in a bowl for us, double bedroom stank of cigarettes, no toilet brush or Hoover brush part therefore couldn't clean during our stay. Such a shame as the cottage with a little bit of care could be great.
