River Garden Cottage is situated in Litton Mill, an attractive riverside hamlet made up predominantly of old mill workers’ cottages around an old cotton mill dating back to 1785. As the name suggests, this end-terrace cottage comes with its own private riverside garden, a very rare amenity here. As a ‘no through road’ hamlet, the location is wonderfully quiet and secluded; it offers a truly peaceful traffic-free holiday.
Perfect for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers alike (for example water voles are numerous on the river here), there are excellent routes available direct from the door in all directions, including the Monsal Trail, which can be accessed immediately across the river and offers 8 traffic-free miles of level cycling and walking with spectacular views. The cottage is centrally located in the heart of the Peak District National Park, with a good pub serving food just a mile down the road, and the nearby small town of Tideswell, with a supermarket and a range of shops, less than 10-minutes away by car.
The spa and market towns of Buxton and Bakewell respectively are around a 15-minute drive, whilst the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and the historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall around half an hour. With private parking for two cars and covered cycle storage, this really does make a fabulous base. Shop 3½ miles, pub/restaurant 1 mile.

Lovely warm roomy cottage, perfect location for walking (Monsal Trail from the front door!). The downsides: parking to the side of the house is difficult because of the neighbour's car (permanently parked) causing an obstruction. One of the twin beds, the mattress slopes down. The sofa has had many complaints from previous guests that it is extremely uncomfortable, this is true! Great kitchen and bathroom.

Lovely location typical old mill workers cottage in quiet hamlet, no mobile signal very slow broadband good in some ways not very helpful in others. settee's very uncomfortable as commented on by previous guests but by rearranging the cushions could sit in reasonable comfort, lovely pub about one mile away great food.

The only criticism would be to buy more comfortable sofas.

Found river cottage ideally located for walks Cottage well equipment but found the sofas the most uncomfortable you possibly find The level of workmanship in the property was poor to say the least but beside that I would go back again due to the location

A lovely cottage in a beautiful and very quiet location, overlooking the River Wye with friendly neighbours. The cottage is very clean and has everything you need with nice touches such as fresh milk, and a starter tray of tea bags, coffee and biscuits. The kitchen and bedrooms are a good size. There is no phone signal but there is WiFi in the cottage. As other reviewers have said, the sofas could do with a refurb as the cushions are lumpy and not very comfortable, but this didn’t affect our enjoyment of the cottage. There is a pub, Anglers’ Rest, about a mile away which is very friendly and does good food.

Lovely, well equipped cottage in a very peaceful location. Ideal as base for walking or generally to get peace and quiet and to be away from the crowds and traffic. Very cosy and warm in winter and with the riverside garden, it would surely be a wonderful place to stay in summer. Three excellent pubs with very good food nearby ( within walking distance/ less than two miles). Would certainly recommend very highly.

Lovely setting with walks straight from the door. Cottage is well-equipped and cosy. We missed having a bath after a long day of walking out in the frosty weather but shower was nice and hot. Electric radiators meant that each room could be controlled separately, which was good...but we found the one in the main bedroom very noisy (like a traditional heating system radiator clanking), and it was programmed to come on at 6.30am which woke us up. Open fire a lovely addition (and logs can be bought from local farm shop); hallway for coats and boots really useful, as is cycle rack in the yard. We would come again!
