    Comfort and Equipment

The cottage was dirty, a lot of dog hairs not cosy and the internet connection was poor if it was availible. The neighbours where very friendly though. The furniture is very old and oncomfortabele.

Looe is a lovely little seaside town, but a little bit overrun during holiday season. The beach is nice and sheltered, so even people not really used to swimming in the sea can enjoy a bath here. The cottage is located nearly on top of one of the hills. So if you plan to go (walk not drive) out in the evening, keep the steep way back up in mind, with a possible shortcut over a graveyeard which borders with the cottage. Riversbend itself was a big disappointment. The photos provided were so promising. The whole place smelled of damp, especially when opening cupboards in the kitchen the wave of wet and stale air hit the nose, the towels felt and looked as if they have waited on the bedsides for weeks. Pots and cups in the kitchen where not clean ... I cleaned before the first use all what I would need. Including the kettle. I never thought to take the saying literally, but here the dirt was swept under the carpet. The heating was not working no matter how I turned the diales or if the power in the sockets was on. Warm water came only out of the shower head. Despite little stickers on the wall gaving clear instruction how to do it, I never had warm water in the kitchen or bathroom sink. The radio/CD player was so sticky I turned it on by switching the socket in the wall on, simply trying to avoid touching it. Why were nearly all plugs out of the sockets when I arrived? It was not enjoyable to plug the ones I needed in. The parking was difficult at times, trying to avoid parked cars while backing out of the small driveway, especially with a rented car. The outdoor seating area can definately use a thorough cleaning; although it was "only" end of May, sitting on the outdoor furniture was no option for me. I tried to phone the contact given in the information package, but got no answer or answering machine. Then, it was only for a week and I was able to handle it, although of course I envisioned the vacation differently. I was happy to leave this place after a week.

So good I have booked again.. My third visit

Good base. Not for people who can't do hills as walking back up from the town is an uphill struggle

Property is located just outside Looe, with a good view of the river from the sitting room and kitchen. Being able to park at the property is a big advantage, as many properties to rent in Looe do not have this facility. However, the drive is narrow and on a slope. This was not a problem for me but others may wish to bear it in mind. Looe is an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, with some lovely coastal walks in the immediate vicinity. It is such a shame that the cleanliness of the property is not up to standard as it means I would not return, nor can I recommend the property to others. Previous reviewers have noted that the property needs a deep clean - a view with which I concur. I would also add that when the property is rented to dog owners please make sure the settee is properly cleaned afterwards. It was covered in dog hairs which is totally unacceptable in my opinion.
