The cottage is spacious, very clean, well decorated and equipped with everything you could need. The garden is large and well kept. The problem for us was that it is situated very close to the busy A75. The front of the cottage is just a few yards from the road which was intermittently very busy. At some interval after the ferry docked at Stranraer, at various times during the day and night, a convoy of heavy lorries would pass, lasting about an hour. The resulting noise and vibration badly affected the two front bedrooms. This did not give us the peaceful and tranquil experience we had enjoyed during previous holidays in the area.

We found rose cottage to be a brilliant base for our family during our trip to Dumfries, easy to get to Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Mountain Bike tracks, Rivers, and much more. We would definitely think about staying at Rose Cottage again, very polite, helpful correspondence from the owners too.

It's the kind of cottage that you say "wow" when you enter at first. It's immaculately decorated, well equipped and furnished tastefully. Having a whole wall you can open to the outside is a joy, and makes this, I would say, a luxury cottage.

A lovely cottage, furnished and decorated to a very high standard. The best cottage we’ve ever stayed in and only a short walk to the village shop and pub. Highly recommend!

What can I say? Wow, wow, and wow, again! This was our first reaction upon entering Rose Cottage, and the feeling that remained with us throughout our stay. In fact, we loved it so much, we opted to extend our holiday by another night. There is so much space — enough to accommodate eight people easily — yet it’s also cosy, with underfloor heating in the main living area, so it never feels cold. The parking area can fit several cars, and there are magnificent views of surrounding fields and hills from the picture windows in the lounge. It has been beautifully decorated and furnished, as well as fitted with several on-trend kitchen gadgets and appliances, adding to the luxurious feel of the place. The beds are comfy and with two bathrooms — one ensuite — it more than meets the needs of a visiting group or family. As it was cold and windy, being February, we used the time for relaxing, rather than exploring, but we did venture out to the Red Kite Feeding Station at Bellymack Hill Farm — a must! There is a Tesco Extra just twelve minutes from the cottage, and a local shop a few minutes’ walk away for all your provisions. All in all, it adds up to a fabulous location to really enjoy your holiday. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and hope to return soon, although if I sing its praises any more, we may struggle to find an available booking. Seriously though, it would make an ideal spot for a family Christmas or New Year celebrations, or just a getaway to unwind for a few days. Perfect!
