Path leading to cottage was a bit steep

Lovely bungalow - very well equipped beautiful setting - lovely owners - and fab welcome basket very kind - would definitely re book and recommend to others - thank you

As this is a cottage for 5, some bigger casseroles would be welcome. We didn’t like the air fresheners, so we removed them during our stay. Beside these small remarks, we had a great time in this lovely cottage. Thank you for the complementary basket, the good bedding and your heartly welcome.

The only thing that could have made this holiday better would have been nicer weather (but again we had better weather than we would have experienced at home. We have stayed in cottages all over the country and this is right up there with the very best - fantastically equipped, beautiful surroundings, friendly owners (wonderful welcome pack), two excellent pubs /restaurants on the doorstep and a host of varied places to visit. The only thing lacking was a shop in closer proximity.

Great, peaceful place to stay. The cottage is well equipped and the owners think if everything (including a collection of 'in case you forgot' items). It's a good location to go and explore the West Lakes and the coast. The local pubs are a quick stroll as well as a cafe/shop. We loved everything minute there, as did our crazy spaniel!

Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. I struggle with mobility issues and have problems standing from low furniture. I mentioned this to the owner before we went out. When we returned four blocks were under the chair legs, raising the height and making it easier for me to stand up. The property was lovely and clean and equipped with everything you needed and more. Highly recommended 5*

2nd visit to this lovely cottage, so homely and peaceful. Very well equipped and lovely welcome hamper again. Ennerdale is in the quieter part of the lakes but well within a drive to all the main areas

Stayed at Rowans when winter returned with gale force winds, snow & rain so essential to have a warm comfortable base to return to. This cottage ticks all those boxes plus more. location excellent for western fells & coast, within walking distance of Ennerdale water, two good dog friendly local pubs, very well equipped if eating in, spacious and comfortable. Owners call round when you have settled in to check all OK. Best welcome hamper yet. Heating very good & plenty of hot water. If you can use a TV remote you can set the heating as required up/down on/off.

The cottage was just what we wanted. A peaceful place to rest and watch the world go by. The owner came to meet us soon after we arrived to check everything was ok for us and showed us how to alter the heating. We were provided with welcome hamper which had lots of great food for us to enjoy. The equipment in the kitchen was brilliant and the cottage had lovely furniture. We were very cosy and warm and had plenty of hot water.

Spent along weekend at the Rowans. A warm welcome and welcoming pack from the owner as we unpacked and told to pop round if there was any problem was a nice touch. 2 local country pubs within walking distance and plenty of places to see and walk on the quieter side of the lake District away from the tourists which is what I wanted to full relax. Would definitely stop again

The cottage itself is set in a beautiful location. The local services are excellent. However the cottage suffers from a leaky roof and very poor ventilation. Upon entering the cottage my wife had a severe reaction to the damp and mold resulting in a minor chest infection. The built-in cupboards and wardrobes in the bedrooms have no ventilation or air circulation, resulting in a very strong damp / mold smell. They are clearly also never opened and allowed to air-out. The results were that my wife couldn't stay in the master bedroom, but was forced to sleep on the setee in the living room, as it was the only place she could breathe. During the second night, after some rain, a large damp spot, the size of a dinner plate, appeared on the ceiling in one of the childrens bedrooms. Despite our best efforts, it never dried out all week. This damp was compounded by the way the heating was controlled. All the main heaters in the property were electronically programmed (and locked) to drop to 8 degrees at 'night', which was set to 7pm. Sadly due to the hour changing on the first day we were there, they actually dropped to 8 degrees at 6pm! This resulted in us having to wear coats and jumpers in the evening and being unable to dry out the damp and leaky areas, as we couldnt get the property warm enough. To add insult to injury, we were greeted by a card when we arrived, stating that since we would be using more fuel than normal, the lardlord insisted we contribute an additional £20 cash toward the running costs for the week! Additionally, the electric hob / oven controls were completely worn off the face of the applicance, making using the cooking facilities somewhat of a gamble as to whether food would be burnt, or undercooked. On the last day, we found a card in a drawer with the controls drawn on, but this was too late for the holiday. It is a shame as the property has a great deal of potential. But needs considerable funds spending on getting it warm, dry and well ventilated (and the heating controls released) before I would ever consider staying there again.

Rowans is a very relaxing and comfortable cottage. The welcome hamper was wonderfully kind. Things we didn't know for sure, but were pleased with were: - big fridge freezer - very good WiFi (several kids on YouTube or similar at once) - electric shower not hugely powerful, but perfectly good enough - it's a mile and a half to Ennerdale lake and it's good to run along the west side (the east involves some scrambling and boggy bits) - there are some nice walks from the door. Overall, we were very happy.

Very comfortable, owner had thought of everything, lovely welcome hamper too. Lovely serene location as well. A good choice to stay in slightly quieter part of lakes but still within easy reach of all major attractions. Highly recommended
