Sanderling is a two bedroomed holiday chalet, located within Freshwater Bay Holiday Village, a rural seaside location within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Freshwater East is a small coastal village right on the edge of a large sandy beach, backed by dunes and flanked by cliffs. The area is popular with families, walkers, couples, birdwatchers and water sports enthusiasts. The chalet has recently been refurbished to a high standard and should include all the things that you need on holiday.
It is a 2-minute walk to the long golden sandy beach sheltered by sand dunes, which is perfect for idyllic family days at the seaside. The children will love exploring the rock pools and splashing about in the clear blue sea. The calm waters of the bay are perfect for swimming, kayaking, bodyboarding and paddleboarding, with the level pristine sands being perfect for beach games, sunbathing and relaxing in this wonderfully peaceful setting. The beach here is dog-friendly, but the Holiday Village does not permit pets. In winter, Freshwater East is a popular spot with surfers too, when the winter swells provide some awesome surf waves, but only recommended for the experienced surfer. Freshwater West, a short drive away, is another well-known surfing beach.
From the beach, you can pick up the Pembrokeshire Coast path running east and west. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path twists and turns its way for 186 miles along the most breath-taking coastline in Britain. It covers almost every kind of maritime landscape from rugged cliff tops and sheltered coves to wide-open beaches and winding estuaries.
Lying almost entirely within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Britain’s only truly coastal National Park. the trail displays an array of coastal flowers and bird life, as well as evidence of human activity from Neolithic times to the present. Freshwater East is situated about 5 miles from Pembroke, with shops and a medieval castle to visit (the birthplace of Henry VIII), and within a 30-minute drive of Tenby and Saundersfoot. Notable features in Tenby include 2½ miles of sandy beaches, the 13th century medieval town walls, including the Five Arches barbican gatehouse, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, the 15th century St Mary’s Church, St Catherine’s Fort and the National Trust’s Tudor Merchant’s House. Tenby is also the jumping off point for a day trip to idyllic Caldey Island.
Other local attractions include Bosherston Lilyponds, Manorbier with its beaches and castle, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Oakwood Theme Park. Local beaches include the beautiful, sandy and secluded Barafundle (ranked as one of the UK’s top ten beaches), Freshwater West (one of Wales’ top surfing destinations), Stackpole Quay and Skrinkle Haven. There are local places to eat out including the on-site pub, The Longhouse, in the nearby village of Lamphey, there is The Dial Inn which serves food and there is also the Freshwater Inn, even closer to home in the village. Pembroke Dock has a range of supermarkets and fast food outlets and all the other shops you would expect, all within a 15-minute drive.
