We had a lovely stay at Scythe and Sickle Barn. there was everything and more that you needed for a comfortable holiday stay. The hosts were really friendly, welcoming and helpful in identifying places to visit, best roads to use etc. We gave slightly lower score for location, but that was certainly down to our lack of research prior to the holiday and not appreciating the journey required to get to the main roads each day when exploring the area and the ease of buses etc to prevent having to use the car for a change. I would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone requiring a beautiful, quiet location to have a relaxing holiday.

Lovely cottage set in beautiful scenery. Good location for visiting area. Helpful, welcoming owners. Such amazing places to visit, coastal walks and lovely bays. An area that has it all to rolling countryside to being by the sea, with quirky villages, and train stations for trips on the steam trains.

A very well appointed cottage, everything has been thought of. Charming and helpful hosts. The surrounding area is beautiful. Particularly enjoyed the walk to Chapel on Sunday, and in the other direction to watch a couple of quoits matches. The moors are lovely, and there are loads of places to visit, Lavender farms, stately homes, seaside and heritage centres. The nearby village has a store/ post office for basic supplies. There are many local tasty tea rooms

Lovely location if you want quiet as in middle of moor but the McDonald’s are lovely and very helpful. The weather was bad but it didn’t stop us exploring

We had a wonderful week at Scythe and Sickle Barn, it's the loveliest space, beautifully and thoughfully designed, perfect for two people. Karen and Bob were very welcoming hosts, providing us with lots of useful local information and tips on where to go, as well as a great welcome pack of some of Karen's delicious home baking. We were incredibly lucky to have a week of glorious weather, and when we weren't out walking on the moors, we could sit outside on the patio area listening to birdsong and watching the antics of Bob and Karen's little cat. Glaisdale is amazingly quiet and peaceful, just the odd horse and the very occasional car going by - perfect peace. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to really get away from the madding crow

Nice property and idyllic. Good view over the valley. Nice retreat from city life. Bathroom and kitchen well equipped. Lovely welcome pack Inc scones and brack Small TV. Could be a little bigger as they are cheap to buy these days. Unfortunately cold weekend weather with hail so could have done with an additional portable heater but none available.

Hosts Karen and Bob were brilliant, so helpful and informative and everything about their beautiful barn, was spot on! Karen had provided some lovely homemade treats, there were some very useful larder provisions for cooking, plus biscuits, milk, coffee and several tea choices. There was an excellent array of utensils and cookery equipment, great oven and handy dish washer. The barn was extremely cosy, fulfilled our requirement of a woodburning stove for chillier nights, a good selection of books, local guides and event information for the area, CDs, DVDs for when you just wanted to relax after a full day's travelling and a very comfortable bed, up on the mezzanine level. We had such a peaceful four days with marvellous weather for early October. The views from the barn grounds were wonderful, as they all were in this part of the North Yorkshire Moors. Places like Whitby and the glorious Robin Hood's Bay were within a half hour drive across some of the most beautiful countryside we've ever seen, helped, of course, by the amazingly vibrant Autumn colours, cloudless sky and the unseasonably warm, sunny weather. There is a very comprehensive Visitor's Information folder in the barn that will answer most of your questions and Karen and Bob can certainly fill you in on anything extra you need to know! Even though I was still recovering from a broken ankle from four months ago, I was able to carefully ascend and descend the stairs to and from the bedroom! The downstairs shower room had a lovely shower too. I think the only problem we had was getting at our provisions in the very low level, small fridge freezer! As we were visiting relatives over our stay, our travelling further afield was a little time restricted, but we will definitely be returning to the Scythe and Sickle Barn to enjoy as our base again and explore more of this beautiful part of the UK. Thank you Karen and Bob for a wonderful stay.

We were looking for a small cottage in a quiet location with plenty of walks and scenery. The cottage lived to this totally. Karen and Bob are on site and are most welcoming and helpful. Local shop and butcher has all you will need. Any Yorkshire perso. Wil tell you this is God’s own county and I found it difficult to argue
