Tucked away from the world, Shepherds Lodge Cottage enjoys the most amazing views over the dales. The stone-built, semi-detached cottage is located on a working sheep and beef farm, attached to the owner’s family farmhouse in Arkengarthdale, just 6 miles from Reeth, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
There is underfloor biomass heating to the ground floor and in the living room there is a gorgeous wood burner to keep you extra warm on chilly nights. The adjoining kitchen is open plan, with arched doorways and slate floors leading to the utility room and a dining area, an excellent place to rustle up breakfast or supper while friends and family gather round the farmhouse table. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms one with super kingsize sleigh bed, the second has twin 3ft beds which can be made into a super kingsize on request. Both rooms enjoy views of the farmyard and fells beyond. The spacious bathroom has a vaulted ceiling, freestanding roll-top bath, situated perfectly beneath the Velux window so you can lie back on a night and watch the stars! Outside, the south-facing patio enjoys magnificent views across the adjoining meadows; after a day out and about, you can sit here with a refreshing drink and relax and watch the sun go down.
Arkengarthdale is a great destination, being just 6 miles from Reeth. Nearby Reeth with two village stores, craft shops, pubs and tea rooms. This property is the perfect accommodation for couples wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life and experience life down on the farm. Just 2 miles down the road is an 18th century pub, serving a good selection of local ales and wines and with an excellent reputation for food.
The varied landscape provides miles of walks, both low-level, gentle strolls along the river and more challenging high-level walks. With high mountains and valleys lined with streams, there are endless footpaths around the most spectacular scenery. Historic Richmond with its Georgian theatre, Norman castle and beautiful riverside walks is just a short drive away. Here you will find a bustling market town, with cobbled alleyways lined with galleries, eclectic shops and tea rooms. In the opposite direction is Barnard Castle, with its market, antique shops and famous Bowes Museum. Take a drive across into Wensleydale and visit the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn, with a host of attractions located in the surrounding area. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is only 16 miles and Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle along with many other pretty picture postcard villages are waiting to be discovered Shop 5 miles, pub 2 miles and restaurant 5 miles.
