The barn is very comfortable in a very quiet setting, unless you count sheep and owls as noisy! The host was extremely helpful and friendly without being the slightest bit intrusive. 2 enormous comfortable beds and 2 bathrooms amidst peace and quiet. What more can you ask? Our first visit here, but most of the entries in the visitors book were from people who had been multiple times before. We also hope to return soon. Many thanks for a lovely few days.

A lot of thought and work has made this cottage barn a homely and peaceful retreat. One to which We must return one day. The warmth greeted us after being adventurous out in the cold, magic place.

A lovely property in a very picturesque location. We enjoyed a fantastic family Christmas break here. We would definitely book again. Log burning stove was a nice feature and the festive Christmas tree was very much appreciated. Thank you for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

If this cottage were to have GCSE results, then it would definitely earn a row of A*s because it exceeds mere A's. I write this with four decades of experience renting cottages, so when I say that Shepherd's Rest stands out, that means that - in our opinion - it's one of top quality. Not only is the building itself beautiful but also we could have believed that we were entirely Away-From-It-All. The brochure states that the owners live next door: true. However that doesn't tell you the degree of discretion they show. We assumed that they must have been away during 'our' week. Wrong! They were there, but took the trouble to use only their back door so that they wouldn't "impose" upon us, their guests. They keep a wonderfully low profile, except in an emergency ("So sorry; we can't find a light bulb!") - whereupon the owner's smiling wife appeared to find the solution. I could write paragraphs more but I suggest that experiencing the cottage would give the best testimonial. However I don't want to recommend that, because I'd hate it to become so popular that it becomes too hard for us to return when we want to ... a.s.a.p.!
