Gorgeous, remote cottage. All equipment provided. Storage heaters most welcome even in August. A log burner would be better than an open fire for future reference as the living room was the coldest room. Blackout blinds in the bedroom meant proper lies ins. The stairs were a little scary being so small and steep but we managed not to fall down them even in the night, motion sensor night light a super bonus! Proximity to beach a great feature!

This was the most amazingly cosy and comfortable cottage - with all sorts of little thoughtful extras. It is an ideal base to tour from, walk from, or just sit and watch birds from. There is a really good well equipped kitchen with masses of fridge space. I would recommend taking as much food as you can because the local shops are limited and expensive - there is no local supermarket to just pop to. We watched dolphins from the decking area and saw ospreys and eagles locally. It is ideal for dogs ??

Upon opening the door, we were immediately met with the stench of in-grained dust. The downstairs of the property has not been thoroughly cleaned for some time, the worst examples being: - a collection of dead flies around the living room windows. - filthy rugs, worn out carpets & cushions - the latter went straight into the washing machine. - food debris encrusted on much of the crockery - which thankfully went into the dishwasher. - a badly stained bathtub and yellowed paint on the walls. - a grubby bolster on the bed upstairs, which we just took off and didn't use. - dust in all the cracks and crevices, on the television cabinet and under the sofas. I would estimate the pictures of downstairs on the website to be at least 10 years old, if not 15. Upstairs was thankfully clean and tidy, (except for the bolster, and some dog hairs on a chair) and looks nicer than the pictures. The cottage and the kitchen are very well equipped, with all the utensils, cookware, and pans that you might need - in fact, it's the best-equipped kitchen I've seen in a holiday let. The oven doesn't work (even when switched on, to be clear) and from the look of how the grill pan and shelves in there are stacked never has. I opted not to go searching for where it is wired in due to the aforementioned dirt. Sky TV and internet were well received after a long day's walking. In general, a good way to describe Skye View is having a lot of finishing touches which go above and beyond whilst getting some of the basics (read: cleanliness) very badly wrong. Notwithstanding all of the above, we had a fantastic holiday and genuinely enjoyed our time at the cottage. I didn't speak to the owner, but my wife did and they sounded genuine and friendly. I would still heartily recommend holidaying here but feel it right to give forewarning of the cleanliness situation.

Signage could be improved as we were told the cottage was clearly marked. On entering there was an overwhelmingly strong smell of air freshener - what was this trying to cover up? I felt the cottage downstairs could have been cleaner. I had to wash crockery and cutlery before using and felt glasses were not as clean as they could be. The washing powder drawer of the washing machine was very mouldy and smelly. Very old ice in the ice tray of the freezer. We love the area and the cottage was well equipped but the garden was untended and there was no fuel for the fire on arrival which after a long journey was disappointing. The decking was very nice. Once there is evidence of lack of cleaning my confidence in the overall cottage disappeared. Shampooing of the rug in the sitting room and perhaps washing cushion covers would help along with a spare blanket upstairs which I think had dog hairs on it. All rather sad as it is a lovely wee cottage but I would not recommend to friends.

Skye View is paradise away from home. We spent Christmas in this lovely crofters cottage and it had all the facilities, cookware and home comforts that you could possibly need along with those little extras like teabags, sugar, herbs and spices that you usually forget to bring and everything is spotlessly clean. There are good shops in Gairloch so you won't be stuck for anything. The kitchen is bigger than it looks in the photos advertised and there is a utility room with lots of counter top and cupboard space with a large fridge freezer. The real coal fire was great and well stocked (local shop in Gairloch sells coals and logs to replenish the stock when you’re done). The bedrooms are cosy and spacious and again have everything you need including hairdryer and slippers. The cottage is beautifully situated overlooking the coast and mountains and is very private with a short walk to the beach. The owner was a pleasure to communicate with and they left us lovely little Christmas extras. I can’t praise this place enough and we plan to return in Summer, Winter or both!
