Needs a new bed. Expensive to heat in cold weather as needed to use multi fuel burner a lot more so had to purchase extra fuel.
Owners live in farmhouse behind barn and were very nice and welcoming. Beautiful area and views all around with lots of fields to walk in.
It's a working farm so can get busy around the farm house,we were there during lambing and enjoyed seeing the lambs being born at the invite of the farmer.

Absolutely lovely weekend away in this cottage very clean and lovely views from the windows, daily visits from the friendly farm dog also helped.
What a fantastic find ! If you want to get away from the rat race then this is the place to go. Peace and quiet The views are amazing you can walk from the door step. The red kites were flying all day you can sit out side of the barn and watch them in their natural environment. Suzanne and Phil are lovely hosts , we were there when the lambing season began Phil showed me and my husband all round the farm his enthusiasm and passion for the care of his flock was inspiring. We had to cross the river to begin our walk from the barn and it was too high to wade through so Phil offered to take us across on the quad bikes which was brilliant. We couldn’t of asked for more
Just returned from a fantastic couple of days at Sophies Barn. We were welcomed by stunning views and the sound of pure bliss... Quickly interrupted by our 3 year old who just wanted to play with the friendly sheepdog on the yard. After getting settled in on Friday night we went for a walk down the lane and took in the beautiful scenery of the local area. While walking we were greeted by Phillip the farmer who was friendly, helpful and really took a shine to our little girl. Later on that afternoon he came and asked if we wanted to go with him as one of his sheep had gone into labour. We watched as Phillip helped the lambs out which was an unbelievable experience which we were so lucky to witness and can't thank Phillip enough for letting us witness. Our little one hasn't stopped talking about it. The cottage is part of a working farm which the owners have no problem with you looking around and meeting the animals. Incredible walks, fields on your doorstep which you can wonder through at will, a river to fish in if you want, 10 min drive to Llandrindod Wells. We have spent many weekends away in a cottage but have never been felt as welcome as we were at Sophies Barn. We were so disappointed we couldn't say bye in person but these guys just work work work in between making sure your happy and settled. Will 100% return in the future... Maybe next year around lambing time again 😁.
Had a lovely time with my family very relaxing break
This is a lovely, spacious accommodation with a great, relaxed atmosphere but what makes it very special are the beautiful surroundings. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts who were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a short, peacuful and relaxing break.
We absolutely loved staying here, the views were amazing, the cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed. The stars at night were something we rarely get to see and we are so looking forward to our next visit.
The owners were very nice and friendly and even lent us a map. With information of surrounding places to visit available in a basket by the door. The views are tremendous and we even had our own version of one man & his dog one day. The property was just what we needed with space to sit in the evenings and the kitchen had all that was needed to make a meal. Will look forward to visiting again. Many thanks to Susan and Phil and the dogs.
A good base for exploring Mid Wales. Friendly owners.
This is a really beautiful cottage in a really beautiful part of Wales. It is located close to many attractions and the owners were just lovely. My kids had the best holiday ever and really enjoyed the farm, the sheep and especially the dogs.
We arrived mid-afternoon to be greeted by Suzanne. Walking into Sophies Barn, the boys ran up their spiral staircase to choose their beds. We took our dog through to the fenced off garden and was greeted with a stunning view of Castle Hill with the brook meandering through the fields. Bliss. Phil told us that all the farm fields were available to explore and walk our dog in, be aware there are sheep, lots of sheep, so it makes sense to have your dog on a lead.
The living area is perfect for a family, large dining table for mealtime, two leather recliner sofas for relaxing (when your not outside drinking in the views) with freeview tv and dvd player, both bedrooms have their own seperate staircase with a large queensize bed on one side of the barn and two single beds on the other, no complaints from the boys about sleeping and we slept like babies. The kitchen area is adequate, having all the utilities you need although when we booked we read there was a washing machine, there isn't. The only gripe came from our son and his friend that there was no broadband/wi-fi but Suzanne and Phil assured us that plans were in place to fix that. Night here is amazing with a cloudless sky, I never knew you could see so many stars.
The nearest town is Llandrindod Wells about seven miles away which has everything you need for supplies and one or two good pubs.
Sophies Barn is about fifty miles from the coast with some wonderful beaches that are dog friendly but check first as some beaches ban dogs during certain months. Borth is perfect for long walks with your dog, boasting ten miles of soft sand. The mountain pass to Aberystwyth and Borth takes longer to get there but is well worth the time with stunning views of the Elan Valley.
All in all a beautifully relaxing week spent in stunning countryside. Highly recommended.
This is the second time we've stayed at Sophie's Barn and are already planning a return trip next year. The location is beautiful, so peaceful and relaxing - we slept better than we have for months! There are some great walks straight from the door and lots of other activities slightly further afield. The owners are lovely people - friendly and helpful but without being obtrusive.
