Dated and not very clean. Kitchen and Bathrooms are by far the best feature. The rest of the house is dated, in need of repair and a deep clean.

We had a wonderful stay in Southcliff House. The view from the house is beautiful. Bedrooms all ensuite - which is one of our criteria for 4 couples. Kitchen well equipt. We certainly recommend this house and would stay again. Laura is very helpful and her local knowledge - especially the restaurant 'Conners' she recommended - was very good food and pleasant staff.

The house is in a lovely spot with good views of the sea and Portpatrick and it is very handy for all local amenities. The modern kitchen is very well equipped and the electrical appliances are of very good quality. The bedrooms (and particularly the two 1st floor, front facing bedrooms) have been nicely modernised and are bright and attractive - all have excellent showers. The 'dining room' now has a pool table instead of a dining table (that's now in the spacious kitchen) and while this is may not be as aesthetically pleasing it was enjoyed by our mid-to-late 20s sons and their girlfriends and it definitely added to the enjoyment of our family weekend. We grew to love this rather quirky house (eg the 'boot room' was previously a hair dressers and still contains the back-wash basin and an old barber's chair) but first impressions were not so good. When we arrived on a bright but cold March afternoon at the allotted 4pm there was no heating on and we entered a dark, cold shabby-looking hall. The downstairs public rooms do 'shabby chic' quite well - but not great when cold. We thought of lighting the wood burning stove to cheer things up but the promised initial supply of wood was not there, although there were old ashes left in a fireside bucket. There were no towels left in 1st floor bedrooms but there were plenty on the laundry trolley so we could easily help ourselves. A bag of rubbish had been left in one of the bedrooms. In the end none of these things really mattered - the central heating was efficient and the house soon warmed up, towels distributed, rubbish disposed of. I hope these negative comments are seen as constructive because with just a little more thought and care the house could seem much more welcoming - and first impressions are important.

What a gorgeous house and stunning views. Very well equipped. Issue with heating on arrival and within 30mins owners had a heating engineer there to fix. Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend Thank you Xxx
