Beautiful house in idyllic location - very comfortable and homely feel - in a damp Christmas week it was wonderfully warm and cosy, and a perfect setting for a family get-together. A treat to have all linen and plenty of towels provided, and the beds made up on our arrival. We appreciated the very warm welcome from Denise the caretaker - she was extremely helpful , both on the phone prior to our visit and while we were there. Much enjoyed local country walks, plus meals out in Marlborough (including Rick Stein) and the Bell Inn in Ramsbury. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Stitchcombe Mill, and would love to return one day!

Stitchcombe Mill is a delightful venue for a country holiday. I live in the US, but was born just 2 miles from that location & this is the first time have been able to find a rental that close to my "Roots''. One must love the old rustic charm of a mill built in the 1700s and renovated to today's very modern standards without compromising the look & feel of the era. The surrounding river adds so much enjoyment to the stay ; watching salmon jumping and being visited by all kinds of birds, including 2 kingfishers which are so beautiful. The garden is a delight and I am sure even more so if visited in summer. The location is wonderfully close to all of the historical places unique to Wiltshire and if you are an avid walker there are so many places to explore the beautiful countryside. If there is any downside to this magical place it is that there are no small stores in the 2 nearby villages to run to and buy a pint of milk! It takes a major excursion to Marlborough to shop for groceries. Probably not an issue for British visitors, but when traveling from the US one is unable to bring any food with you so an immediate trip to the store is almost imperative. I spent 3 glorious weeks there and would certainly return

    Great family retreat.

the setting for this cottage is superb, tranquil and just beautiful. The cottage itself is of course old and that is reflected inside, in the kitchen especially, which some might say was pretty basic (myself included). Both sitting rooms were comfortable as were the beds, but take your own quilt if staying in summer as they all seemed to be winter tog - it was stifling! The bathroom is basic, the ensuite shower more modern and shower much better. The location for getting to places of interest was good, Avebury a must, Hungerford could walk by canal and Marlborough good for shops and potter. Bradford on Avon about an hour away and also nice to visit.
