Your perfect country cottage, beautifully presented and well equipped, is situated in the pretty village of Witton-le-Wear in County Durham. In an ideal location for a summer holiday or weekend break, Stonelea Cottage has front terrace enjoying a sunny spot in the morning, and is set with bistro table where you can sit out and enjoy your morning coffee while planning the day ahead. Inside this mid-terraced property you will find a cosy and tastefully furnished living/dining area. An oak floor, leather sofas, country-style décor, a pretty window seat and a cosy wood burner give a welcoming feel. The kitchen is compact and well-equipped to cater for your stay, and French doors lead out onto a gravelled courtyard, such a peaceful spot in which to sit and enjoy a drink while enjoying the late afternoon sun. Upstairs is a small bedroom with a single day bed, a master double bedroom, and a shower room completes the accommodation.
There is a village pub within a short stroll and if you’re looking to dine out, and several within a short drive offering a good range of menus. The local area offers so much to see and do. it is perfect for enjoying walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding and a range of attractions. Close by is Low Barns Nature Reserve and Witton Castle.
Hamsterly Forest, famous for its mountain biking and walks, is only 11 miles away and within 30 minutes you can visit the Derwent Waterside Park, a great place for walking, cycling, fishing and sailing. Witton-le-Wear is well situated, being just off the A68 for journeys to and from Scotland, offering a perfect base to explore north England and has easy access to both coast and country. The historic city of Durham with its magnificent cathedral and river boat trips; the market town of Barnard Castle, with its 12th-century castle, and medieval Raby Castle are all just a short drive away.
The open air Kynren medieval spectacle takes place just 4 miles away and is hugely popular with visitors to the area. The award-winning Beamish Open-Air Museum is just 30 minutes away and is well worth a visit. Newcastle and Gateshead offer an array of museums and art galleries, along with excellent shopping and are only 27 miles away. Visit the pretty Dales villages of Wolsingham, Frosterley and Stanhope, with charming independent shops, tea rooms and riverside walks. A little further afield are the Northumberland National Park, Hadrian’s Wall, the historic town of Hexham and Corbridge.
