    > With parts dating from the 1350s this beautifully restored, detached holiday house can be found on the edge of the North Devon village of Petrockstowe. The charming exterior is matched by the well appointed, comfortable interior. Every effort has been made to retain the charm of a house of this age but also with modern conveniences required by discerning guests. There is a large landscaped garden with a pond and is ideal to either find a quiet corner or have a run around. There is also 25 acres of fields to use that lead down to the Tarka Trail which is great for cycling or walking. In the village there is a charming pub and playground, both within walking distance of the house. The house is ideally suited to explore the charming North Devon coast and countryside, there are stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. If gardens are of interest the R.H.S Gardens at Rosemoor are a delight and there are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area to enjoy. The towns of Great Torrington and Bideford lie close by with most amenities, as is Bideford’s quay where visitors can book a trip to Lundy Island. Slightly further afield is the Dartmoor National Park. Beach lovers will delight in the wide sandy beaches, the nearest being the Blue Flag beach at Westward Ho! The Milky Way and The Big Sheep will fascinate the younger ones. There are several local pubs nearby, with the nearest in the village serving real ale and home cooked food. Shop 2 miles, pub 500 yards.

    We went in September so it was at a reduced rate. Everything was as expected apart from under-floor heating not working. The owner kindly sent a Heating Engineer in to investigate but because of poor reception on my mobile I missed his text informing me of Engineer's appointment and we were out. Engineer put boiler on manual from an outbuilding but unfortunately this didn't cure the problem luckily there were electric fires to use. English Country cottages description needs adjusting as you can no longer walk through fields to the Tarka Trail, I understand from the Cleaner that some fields have been sold off.

    Had a terrific week in lovely remote farmhouse. Friendly village and quite a drive to beaches etc but that meant we had quietude and peace. Lovely garden but pond water was low. Attractive however. Perhaps a bigger fridge to store more food and drink would be helpful.

    Wonderful country house with plenty of space for 8 adults, 3 dogs & a baby!! House was superbly clean and the hosts were very easy to contact and responded immediately to any questions we had.
