Totland village is within walking distance as is the village of Freshwater, with a range of shops, supermarkets, butchers, baker, fishmonger, chemists, pubs, restaurants, and takeaways. The village also has a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool. If you don’t want to use a car you can catch the local bus (No. 7) at the top of the road, a 2-minute walk, to Yarmouth (Wightlink ferry), Alum Bay (The Needles) Newport or the Village of Freshwater. Colwell Bay a sandy beach with attractive beach huts, beach shop, café, and bar, is a 10-15 minute walk from the house and is ideal for swimming. Colwell Bay is home to a beach hut style restaurant, popular with locals and the sailing community, and is renowned for using locally sourced ingredients; Advanced booking is advised.
Totland Bay beach is a secluded cove, excellent for swimming and Paddle boarding and is only a 10-15 minute walk. There is a bar and restaurant situated on the front at Totland Bay which has a selection of menus, drinks and takeaway snacks/meals and well as having outside and inside seating dining. The Afton is 5 minutes’ walk from the local recreational park and fitness trail and the ”One Horsefield” nature trail - a wildflower meadow and circular walk. The coastal path is also a 10-minute walk away.

The stunning Freshwater Bay with pebble beach and amazing views and cafés is a great spot for a relaxing day out by the beach. If you like to walk, you can pick up the Tennyson trail from Freshwater Bay and this will lead you to Tennyson monument which has stunning views and scenery. You can then continue to walk into Alum Bay famous for the Needles Lighthouse, coloured sands, shops, restaurant, glass blowing and chair lift to the beach. The Needles is a must visit for any holiday and can be accessed by car with plenty of parking if you don’t fancy the long walk up Tennyson. Freshwater Bay Golf Club is situated above the famous white cliffs and is said to be one of the most spectacular courses in the UK.
