The Anchorage is situated in Burniston, a small village just north of Scarborough. The bungalow was rebuilt after the second world war after the Germans dropped their last remaining bombs on their way home, hitting the row of houses one of which was The Anchorage. The village has everything you would need with a shop, post office and a couple of good pubs. This area was mainly inhabited by seamen therefore most of the names of the properties are named after the fishing industry. There is a small secluded cove at Burniston and for long sandy beach walks you can’t beat Scarborough where you will find two bays. The north bay is much quieter than the south bay where you find the traditional seaside treats such as donkeys on the beach, sandcastles and amusements. The long flat promenade gives you over three miles of easy walking with views out to sea and inland to the castle perched on the hilltop. North of the property lies the delightful seaside town of Whitby surrounded by the rugged North Yorkshire Moors. Catch the steam train from Whitby and travel over the moors filled with heather down through Heartbeat Country to Grosmont and then onto Pickering. For those walkers amongst you the coastline running past Burniston forms part of the Cleveland Way so there’s some excellent walking right on your doorstep. The dramatic rugged coastline and tiny coves make it a memorable walk. Further down the coast there’s the seaside resorts of Flamborough Head, Filey and Bridlington, all great family beaches. Visit the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton where you can see puffins and guillemots in their natural habitat. It’s just a few minutes drive down into the centre of Scarborough where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars and theatres. The Stephen Joseph Theatre is home to most of the world premieres of Alan Aykbourn’s plays. The bungalow is in a perfect base to visit all of the east coast, the moors and the Yorkshire Wolds.

This is a lovely cottage and within an easy drive to many places, plus a short walk to two nice pubs for good meals. It’s on a quite busy road but traffic noise is not a problem at night or when sat in the lovely, enclosed, dog friendly garden. It is immaculately presented.

A delightful cottage with a splendid Garden for the dog. Spotless and well equipped. You soon get used to the traffic as it's on a very busy road. Excellent pub down the road. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Very nice bungalow equipped with everything you need and very clean. Was a little chilly when we were there but the electric fire in the living room soon warmed things up. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again.

The Anchorage is an extremely welcoming and clean bungalow with a huge back garden great for your dog. It's ideally located with good walks in the surrounding area. Scarborough and Cayton Bay are within a 20 minute drive. Our dog, Rio loved the walks and beach. The village has two good pubs which are dog friendly. The Oak Wheel serves good food and you can have take away fish and chips also which were excellent. I would recommend the Anchorage to anyone a n d we will certainly return.

It's a lovely house, very clean, perfect for a nice week in Yorkshire. The owners are lovely, very friendly (the postcode post-holiday to thank us for staying was a lovely touch, thank you). The only issue is the road, and it hasn't bothered us enough to stop us from visiting twice and planning to visit again. It's a noisy road and quite hard to get out of the drive sometimes, but you get used to it. The garden is lovely and very secure, and the utility is great for drying off a soggy dog if, like us, you picked the worst weather week to go. I would definitely recommend this house to people wanting to explore the Scarborough area - it's only a 5-10 minute direct drive to the North Bay, and easy to get to both Tesco (express and extra) and Proudfoot for food.
